Post header secondary touches oil pan - problem?

Found this dead old thread: http://www.nissanforums.com/ga16de-1...ouches+oil+pan

Now before I installed my Hotshot header on my first motor I painted it with a couple coats of ceramic high heat paint, on top of what I guessed was already ceramic coating, so I think they retain more heat than just metal pipes.

On my old motor the clearance was about 1/8" but after the swap the pipe touches the pan.

I only started to think about this because of my small temp gauge reading high problem.

So, definitively, is it OK for the exhaust to touch the pan? Isn't the pan there to cool the oil as well?

And secondly, can I bang in that part of the oil pan a bit to make it clear or will that mess up a sipper or somethin?

Maybe I will try and see about extra gasket miracles...coiuld change the geometry a bit and make it clear...or an extra flange, as suggested in the end of deadthread.

??

my secondary pipe rattled against the oil pan when in reverse, what i did was bang the oil pan in just enough to give the pipe some clearance and it doesn't look like i damaged anything inside the pan. my car is a '96 though.

do not hammer the pan out. It is easier and safer to use an extra gasket or flange or to have that section of the header modified!
