i have a question and want to see if i can get some help? my tranny has had alot of problems in the past few years. a few months pack two of the belthousing holes on the tranny cracked open and the tranny fell from the motor.then the seal from the drive shaft started leaking. know the tranny starts to shift hard in too the gears. i think soon i might need a new tranny so i was wanting to see if maybe i could bolt up the tranny of an sr20 or if i could put a stronger tranny besides the one it all ready has please help. (also not to much money to work with)

SR20 tranny is a no go, doesn't fit.
The GA16 tranny is plenty strong. Even if two holes cracked the tranny is held on by 5 bolts.... I would replae it with a good conditiong used GA16 tranny and while your at it replace the shifter linkage.

I'm having a not so similiar problem, but it deals with my tranny. A few months after I bought mine [in 2005] the shift from 1st gear into 2nd was jerky. I have a automatic, so it's not anything to do with shitfting. It doesn't slip, but sort of bangs into 2nd. It's only the transition from 1st into 2nd.
I've been told it might be the transmission fluid, and I should change it. BUT i'm afraid that might actually make it slip and blow the tranny all together.
I'm actually thinking I will need a new one or it will have to be fixed. At high rpms the gears tend to shift funny also, and sometimes I have to let off the gas to let it catch up..
ANY suggestions??
should I fix the one I have or get another better one [used/remanufactured]??

mine is doin the same thing sometimes from 1st to 2nd it shift hard.....i'm gonna try changing the fluid and maybe the filter (idk if it has one prbly does).....Get a tranny at the junk yard and throw it in urself isn't that hard to do....5 bolts and wires...all u need is a jack to move the tranny isn't that heavy
well thats a good idea i think i will replace it but money is kind of tight. something else i have been noticing is that in the past few days i have been having to press the clutch really hard to get the car to turn on could this mean my cable if bad or is somthing else.

DO NOT REMOVE THE FILTER. that one middle bolt has a nut at the other end of it, and once unscrewed, it's impossible to put back together.

eeek for real?? there is no way to get to it at all??? have u tried it or heard about it?....i'm gonna try to do it anyway lol....more reason to get the sr20det in lol
well you can get all the screws off and take the filter off just fine, but you'll have an extra nut and bolt after putting it all back together, but it works just fine without them and the filter is just a fine mesh screen type thing, i didn't need to replace mine, just cleaned off the debris and metal shavings that were on it.

Sounds like the switch at just needs adjustment. Get down on the floorboards and look at the clutch pedal, there is a switch at the top of the pedal movement (for the cruise control) and one at the bottom (for the starter interlock) adjust the starter interlock one up some.

things just get worse and worse i replaced the seal on the right side of the tranny because it was leaking from the axel just a few days ago and i cleaned the oil up around it. well the other day i was looking under my car and it is still leaking oil from the same place i got the right seal. what else could be leaking from the tranny.
the first seal i was going to put in it went in wrong so i had to get another one then i put it in i think that it has to be somthing else because its about the 4th time i replace the seal this year. i took it to my old boss (he's a mechanic) and we ran the car on the lift and the oil is coming from the seal. so i dont what it is.
i was wondering could it be the axel that its to short or it might be some how damaged because come to think of it i put in a new axel and it started leaking just a few after.

Are the axles fully seated? Also how are you installing the seal? Are you using a rubber mallett and making sure they seat properly without tears? In your removal of the old seal did you mar or scratch the bore surface?
