I have a 92 1.6L nissan sentra and when I press the a/c button I hear something in the engine but no cold air is coming from the vents when the fan is on. when i turn off the a/c button I hear something again I think the compressor is working if thats what that sound is because I hear that sound when i press a/c button on and off but no cold air is coming. Could it be the a/c gas is finished or something with the ecu or something else any ideas......

i'd check the ac operating pressures first before anything else. you might have no refrigerant in there.

I was about to tell you the same thing... you can't get any info without an A/C gauge. If it says R-12 on the A/C tag leave it to a shop, forget the gauge.
