Unbolted my exhaust

Hey, I wanted a little more sound out of my car so i thought i would unbolt my exhaust behind the cat. (i could not do it anycloser because of the 02 sensor), so right know i am running open cat,(which sound GREAT) and i was just woundering if i get any added performance from doing this and is this bad for my car since the exhaust is not getting filtered all the way, and if it is bad, how bad, i have exhaust in the mail on the way so i will be hooking that up when it gets here but i was just wondering if i get anythig form doing this because i know on some cars it gives u insane low end torque. But with it being only a 1.6 i don't know what it will do. Hit me back

I was told by my friend that it is bad for your valves in the long run. however i was unable to confirm that with any other sources.

From what i have read about it(very hard to find anything on it) it seems you only have valve problems if you dont have atleast some back pressure. All the info i found was kinda hard interpret. nothing specificly about removing the mufler. so i may be completely wrong.

If that is true, i would assume scince the cat and resonater are there, they would provide enough backpressure to keep that from happening. However im not about to risk messin up my motor just to find out. Try callin a muffler shop and see what they can tell you, Then again they might just tell you its completly necessary so you will buy something form them.

Yea that is the whole reason i did it is because i knew that i had a lot of back pressure and i wanted to let some of it go...however i don't think it will be to bad on my valves if i only do it for just under a week do u....I hope not

I would not sudjest this. Is the extra sound really worth possibly hurting or even killing your engine? With me that is a defanent no. the problem comes when there is not a long egnof pipe to keep the cool abient air from flowing up stream and hitting your block (this cracks the block is my under standing). This is y real drag cars rebuild there engines after 2 or 3 runs. Just do your self a favor and wait for the exost you ordered

OK guys this will in NO WAY hurt your motor, at all... period. I can't believe you think it sounds good, I have heard it before and I think it sounds like total crap. But hey, to each his own.

As for the guy who said it's bad for your valves, smack him...

i admit, i did the same thing before, but i did it on the rear axle. it's behind the cat so emissions were not compromised. think of it as a controlled exhaust leak. (well, kinda sorta)

I ran the Hotshot header open for like a minute just to clean up metal shavings and other crap after I cleaned up the exhaust ports and it sounds like crap and that's just on idle I wouldn't drive around like that. Also the heat from the exhaust will most likely screw up something underneath the car not to mention you'll smell almost everything coming out of the pipe inside th cabin... toxic or not.

why not just spend the money and get an exhaust and do it the right way the first time? i dont understand how it would sound good as Wes stated before.
