Ok, so I checked timing today and couldn't read it. But I did notice that my distributor was rotated all the way towards the front of the car--I guess this means it was retarding the timing. So, I advanced it a bit, and then checked the timing. This time I was successful in reading it, and it is now set at 10*. The problem is still there. Could it be a bad distributor? Or am I looking at a new chain? The mark didn't move around, so I am thinking that the chain is not loose or stretching.

Well, thats good that you fixed the timing, prolonged extreme retardation or advancement can mean big trouble issues later on. Sorry to say I cant help you anymore otherwise, when my car had this problem, it was just timing.

Well, it turns out it was just the plug wires. I can't believe it was so simple. If anybody wants a brand new distributor, let me know. I only want what I paid for it.
