Problem: Car died completely, no dash lights when trying to start car
Ok, my car died today. First problem is that it wouldn't start. No crank, nothing, just clicks. So I decided to check my starter because one time the negative connection from the starter fell off. It was on, still no start. I guess when I was trying to make sure everything fitted properly, I didn't notice the negative connection fell off again. I told the other person with me to start the car. I started seeing smoke from the negative connector on the starter. Apparently it was touching the starter body.
Now none of the dash lights (brake, check engine, etc.) wont' come on at all. I just get the beeping chime when the door is open. All my electronics are dead. HVAC controls will not work. Radio will not work. Outside lights work fine though. Interior light works fine. What can possibly be wrong? What are the fuses that control these things? The fuses seem fine though. Also, it is completely quiet, no more clicking (which is also not good) What could be wrong?
Car is a GA16DE, 5 speed manual.
Well I will try and get a new starter. In the mean time, keep suggestions coming.
Update: Starter checks out fine. If the battery is low, it should at least crank or the lights should dim, but nothing. Please help.
