So today when I crawled under the car to change the oil, and check out the beautiful mess I found...
I found out that when my sister had my car taken in for an oil change over christmas break (dec 12th), they did a horrible job... My drain plug was completely different and looked like it was older than my car, and it had no gasket. The filter was not on tight enough, so there was a slow drip from there and the oil was bllllllllaaaaaack!!!
Anyways, my question is this... could the oil drip have really traveled far enough to be on the transmission case, or am I looking at major transmission problems after my sister drove it?
Normally I do the oil myself, but it was massively cold out so I caved and got her to take it.
Thanks guys,
-Pete-
PS: I love this shot...
Well, it could be multiple problems since you said the correct oil plug was not installed correctly and did not have a copper gasket. Another problem you could be looking a is the front/rear oil seal. The front oil seal tends to go bad more often than the rear, usually around 140000-150000 miles. But from the pictures you have provided, there is oil everywhere, so it is hard to determine where the oil exactly has originated from. The front oil seal is an easy fix. Look at the sticky.

My Ga was leaking from the front seal around 65K miles, and I have had the Car from new.
So yes I think the front seal is worth checking.
Good luck......
The way it looks Id say your Rear Main Seal has gone out... But without seeing in person its really hard to say.
My recommendation....... Clean the Engine bay and Undercarrige THROUGHLY. Then run it for awile in the driveway. If necessary drive 5-10mi at slower speeds and tehn re-examine. The culprit will be Much more visible then.

I know I have redone the Pan Gasket. But mine sits alot since I retired the daily driver. I think the cold and then warm eventually wears them out.
You need to really degrease it good. The axel seals in the tranny could go bad also, you never know because tranny fluid in ours looks like Motor oil. If the rear main seal goes, you will have a slipping clutch from the oil slapping around the pressure plate and disc. If it was an Automatic, you will never know. The pan gasket goes because its just the rubber sealant gasket. I used a good grey permatex sealant and followed the directions on the install, clean it really good and the block of all oil, sand the surface slightly and use Acetone to clean the surfaces. The front seal can also run onto and alongthe sill of the pan. Just clean it well and observe. pressure wash all the oil and dirt off.

I do have a manual, and the clutch is very slightly slipping, almost unnoticable. I would have cleaned it by now, but the weather has been less than nice since I changed the oil. When it warms up a little I'll clean it off and post some pictures.
