1.6L Headers

I'm looking for a little more torque/acceleration in the first 3 gears for my 95 Sentra. There's a set of headers i've found online that claim to give 15HP and more power through 3rd gear. Is this worth my $$ and what kind of gains will I get?

hotshot or homemade. Homemade being good ones, not the kind people make out of Advance Auto crush bends (yes, I've seen 'em do it!). If the headers don't have much meat in them, you'll buy them at least twice. Might as well get the good ones right away

Did I see you're working on a 924 turbo? I owned an 87 944 N/A. A lot of fun, if you can keep em running. Thanks for the tip on the headers, I'll keep looking.

The best header on the market for the GA16 is made by Hotshot... hands down... I would even suggest looking for a second hand one even before buying any other brand...

everything you need to know: http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/.../hotshot.shtml

Our numbers were quite impressive for a few bolt-on modifications. The peak wheel horsepower gained was approximatly 12 HP and a torque gain of 18.5. It's even more impressive if you look at the usable mid-range area of the powerband. In the 5250 RPM area we showed a very respectable increase of 20.4 HP and at 4250 RPM we showed a 21.9 gain in torque. Alone, The Hotshot header gives about 7-8 more peak wheel hp than stock and 10-11 hp around 5500 RPM.

hahaha...and that would narrow it down to about 1 in a 10000 people that can make a good header at home

Will the Hotshot header mount to the stock exhaust system? Or do I need to change out the rest of the exhaust?

I had my 95 200SX SE worked on and I asked the mechanic to advance the timing to 12 degrees and it ran like crazy. I then installed a K&N filter and I got a bit more response . I now am wanting the exhaust to start breathing a bit more. Thanks for your help!!!

yes, but it will sound like crap with a stock exhaust. My friend had one on his celica and the stock exhaust is just so restrictive it makes it sound like a herd of bees.

OK so I need to replace the rest of the exhaust. What kind of price range am I looking at if I just order the parts and install it myself versus having one custom made? Also, I read somewhere here on the forums that 2" - 2.5" would be big enough. Am I right about that? Thanks again for your help.

2" Mandrel bent piping is what you want for your system. Anything bigger has been proven to be a waste. Stromung offers a complete cat-back exhaust system, for around $500 or so. Having a custom exhaust system welded up would be a much cheaper option.

i would get a custom catback made or buy the stromung before you buy the header.

Okay, reading somewhere else in the forum, someone stated the same thing saying it sounds like bees on crack. I ordered a header and I still have the stock catback exhaust. I have a perforated apexi muffler right now (like kojima said, get a perforated for less backpressure). Will it still sound like a loud weedwacker along with the muffler?

And What's the diameter of the stock pipe anyway. I'm planning to do a 2" crush bent/mandrel bent in the future once I install this header.

Don't do crush bent! Mandrel bent, please. Crush bent is a hell of a lot more restrictive than mandrel bent exhaust piping.

So if I get this now and wait for the HotShot later then should I see some performance increase? Even if it was only a little?

Again thanks for all the help... I will end up getting the HotShot header... eventually... when I get the money...
