Another Wont Start

hello guys.

i already did an intensive search and read alot of posts about the topic. my girfriend owns a 1992 sentra classic. its an automatic. The first time the problem arised the car dies in the parking lot at her work place. it was -30 celcius, so i figured that it was the battery seeing how it was very old. so we bought a new one and everything ran fine. the other day she was driving and hit a pudle of water. the car sputtered and died. since then it will not start. if it were due to water or bad wire insulation those should be ruled out cause i left the car in my heated garage to dry up and still no start.

now heres where it get wierd. the motor cranks all fine. but after cranking a few times it looses power and then just clicks. the battery is new and reads 12.2 volts constantly with a volt meter. if the car is left in avsessories there is a clicking from the engine bay. i looked around to localize the clicking noise. not owning a sentra, and being more of a dsm specialist, i am writing on this board to ask for your aid. The clicking stopped when i unplugged what looks to be the ignition coil. if that is the unit behind the air filter hosing, on the left hand side. when the unit is unplugged everythign goes silient as it should be. but when i replug it, and the car is in accessories the clicking starts and u can feel the clicks on the unit. can this be the source of the problem. any help would be appriciated.

Thanks, Tino

i would also like to add that i have checked the distributor rotoe and it is in good shape, no fractures and the seal is good. also there is no spark going to the plugs.

No spark.... Is the Coil Working??? (Unplug coil wire from Dist., while cranking). If youve not got spark from the coil then you could have 1 of several issues. If youve got spark there, then either your Cap or Dist is possibly bad.

If no spak from coil..... Test the injector leads... There should be a positive voltage from one of the wires to ground with the switch on. Better yet is a "Noid" light witch you plug into the injector harness and will strobe when the ECM fires the injector. If either of these tests fail then youve got a prob with power getting to the ECM. If the Noid light test works then the ECM and CPS (Camshaft position sensor), Built into the Dist., Are both good.

If this is the case then youve probably got a Bad coil or Ignition Module.. Which come to think of it, the Ignition Module, could get wet in a SEVERE situation if the plastic "guards" have been removed.

Hopefully this is of some help...

okay ill check that out. but my other main concern would be what is stopping the engine from cranking anf i have tried it for a couple of seconds? if you let it sit for a while then try to start it it will crank but not catch. but after a few attempts it will simply not crank and the clicking will start. if i unolug that module located behind the air filter housing to its left the clyinder looking module with the 4 prong harness. the clicking will stop. what exactly does that module do ???
