I have got a P0450 and a P0446 code on my 97 Sentra GXE I am pretty sure the canister is ok and that it is the solenoid itself but from what I am reading on here it sounds as if there are 2 of them. One near the rear driverside tire and one under the hood (middle, near the back) is this correct? and are these dealer only parts?
I have searched and ended here.
I also have the p0450 code on my wifes 97 200sx
Can you tell me where the cannister and sensor are located? I just replaced alternator, and the code just appeared yesterday. I have reset with my Davis Carchip, however it keeps returning.
I might add, the alt was replaced in a carwash parking lot on Sunday as we were stranded in a small town, I might have knocked something loose?
Thanks
OK
It is located with a mess of vaccum lines and sensors at the rear of car, underneath, I know this, however I'm at a loss as to which is the pressure sensor???
The best way to fix this is to take it to a mechanic who is fimalliar with evap systems and diagnostic procedures. Just hooking up a scanner usually will not tell you what is wrong with the system. You prob. have a stuck control valve, mabye a tear in a vaccum line. Have you ever kept the car running while you fill up your gas tank. mabye you need to replace the gas cap. I could go on for hours on this. I have ran into this countless times. I recently attended a EVAP siminar that was put on by STANDARD ignition. It mainly went over system operation and procedures. Get ready to spend a lot in shop labor just for it to be something simple. like a gas cap or a 3 inch section of vaccum line

your vent control valve is clogged with carbon. clean it out with brake clean and compressed air and reset ecu. it takes a long drive and then a cool down of 2 hours before the computer re checks the evap system. That is when you will know if you have to replace the sensor or not. Take the sensor off. apply 12vdc to one side of the connector and ground the other one. this will open the valve. you should be able to blow though the port.

Well i was acting prematurely, it seems, andreading- clearing the code too soon.
I let my wife drive it for a week, with my Davis Carchip installed, seems the REAL code is a p0105, absolute manifold pressure sensor. it logged 4-p0450 codes, then a p0105, and then they alternated 1 each for the duration of data.

Upon digging, i found it to be bad,(5v line on pin 3 went to 1.7v when reconnnected, no output3v at pin 2), and also found that the evap pressure sensor is the same part, save for the vacuum nipple size. I plugged the evap pressure sensor into the absolute pressure sensor plug, for easier testing , and it showed the correct voltages. I then swapped the absolute sensor to the evap ensor location, now get p0105 first with a p0450 secondary code-----ha ha ha
I thought 200's had MAFs, not MAPS. Mine is a 95' so I could be wrong.
I dont quite understand what your doing when your testing your sensors, probably because Im tired. Either sensor should have 3 lines, a constant (with key-on) 5v reference, an output signal, and a ground. The output voltage should vary with the engine running on the MAP, the MAF will start moving around when you open the throttle. Im only typing all this just to help you diagnose your problem, I not sure if you know this all already =P
You said the evap code popped after you put in the alternator, so I would just check and make sure you didnt knock a vacuum line off somewhere or maybe split one.
According to haynes
All 1997 and later with the GA16DE use an absolute pressure sensor, located closer to the center of the firewall, than the cruise servo. There is also a MAF
When testing, first unplug and test for ground-pin 1, 5v- pin 3 Key on engine off\ plug in sensor and check for 3.2-4.8 v on pin 2. I had 1.7 on pin 2 and 1.7 v on pin 3 with sensor connected.
I swapped the evap sensor and got 3.5v pin 2.
The 2 sensors have identical plugs
UPDATE
I recieved a price quote on the Map sensor---300 bux
I was able to locate the identical part on e-bay. 45 bux shipped . I replaced it when it arrived
It has now been 12 days with no Service engine light. The codes were indeed reversed.
