Question turbocharging a ga16 on a budget

Hey guys, just wondering if anybody had any ideas on a "relatively cheap" way or just the cheapest way of getting my ga16 turbocharged? I'm stilll learning about all the engine so i would definitely have to have it done at the shop. any prices for the whole thing to get done? i've seen the hotshot turbo for the ga16 and it is $3,000 some...i could get that in my dreams... any ideas? think getting a turbo from a car in a junkyard is a good idea? any ideas/help would be great. thanks a ton

Just remember you get what you pay for. In the case of a turbo I would definitely save up for a reputable product or you risk destroying your motor.

every turbo ive seen in a junkyard had the comp or turbine wheels rubbing against their respective housings. either that or they were completely frozen and wouldnt turn at all. they arent bad to have for cores though. a DIY turbo kit is possible, it just a lot of time sourcing parts.

There is no such thing as a cheap turbo installation. Unless you are a mechanical wiz and don't mind a massive project involving scrapped turbos, save your time and money to buy a high quality turbo. It will save both your time and your engine.

i disagree, there such thing as a "cheap turbo install", but u have to make everything ur self. however, if u dont have the tooling and machinery available then buying a kit is easier.

Yes, that is why I stated, 'Unless you are a mechanical wiz and don't mind a massive project involving scrapped turbos.....' You can do it yourself if you are a skilled mechanic and have a large investment in the tools necessary. The average individual probably lacks the skills and/or equipment necessary.

hrmmm...

does this deal with the B14 Chassis? Yes!

Is this more directly related to the GA16 Engine? Yes!

Off to the GA16 Forum you go!

here's a cheap turbo idea for ya:

take a blow dryer that has a "cool" button on it. tape the cool button down and get a 14v to 115v converter for your car so you can plug in the blow dryer. hook your blow dryer up to the air filter or just hook it right up to the intake manifold. and there ya go, turbo for $50.

::not to be takin literally::

If you're really going to turbo your GA16DE you might consider doing some things to make your car handle better and stop better. I know my XE was overpowering it's brakes and suspension and I only had a CAI and advanced timing. I'm running into the same thing with my SE-R. Once you get comfortable driving your car hard, you soon find yourself needing to do things to keep you from killing yourself.

I agree 100%, upgrade your brakes and suspension before you even think about a turbo

try autocrossing....u will find the brakes to be extremely ineffective when pushed to their limit.

as for the install, if it was a complete bolt on kit(no fab work) then i would install the kit in two days. the first day for the install and the second to work out all the bugs.

You dont even have to autocross to see how shitty the single piston caliper brakes, just do a little bit of semi-hard braking on the streets, and you'll see massive fade.
