alternator is dead as a turkey:(

Well I was driving down the street making a left turn in heavy traffic and all of the sudden no power steering no power anything. i got it started up and moved a block or so towards autozone and it died idling in the turn lane. I managed to push it 3 blocks to autozone to check it out. The 80 amp alternator is spiting out 28.2 amps. I'm sure that its cooked. They want a duralast alternator for $130.00 with a life time warranty. If I bring back the old one they give me back $85.00. but the problem is no money. So if any one has any ideas mabye where to get one cheap this would help.

if you really have no money you can probably try to sell some of your mods on your car (running your car is more important than making it look cool)

or i guess you can try a junkyard or ebay.

UPDATE:
I managed to get it started it took a minute or so of starting (just like a car will do if it floods) It will sit and idle in park just fine with a lot of chuging and it spits out white exhaust but that is probly because its very cold out. if i put it in drive and hold the brake down it dies if i put it in drive and let off the brake immediately it moves about 3 feet and dies. Does this still sound like the alternator?

no. it was on several time in the past 2 weeks but all of those were emmisions control wich i suppose was a result of a diffrent air:fuel mixture from the air intake kit I installed.

Doubtful, it was more likely to be the Intake Air Temp sensor. Did you plug it back into the new intake?

Aslo when it died did any dash lights flash?

When the codes come back, and the probably will, just pull them manually. Then come back here and let us know what it is.

I found my problem but im reluctant to reveal my total stupidity to all the forum members. I forgot to tighten up the negative battery cable. I did have a error light come on today that was different than "normal" it had something to do with a ecg valve or something like it.
