I would like to know about oil change service. Some guys like Autoprecision etc change the oil and filter for around $14-16. And if you go to Jiffy Lube , they charge around $30+. What is the difference between two?
Also When I press brakes on my car , when I start in the morning, it makes noise as if oiling and greasing is not proper. Will some of you tell me what is required to be done? And what other oil change is required other than regular(3000 miles) change. I was told that I should keep all the fluids right to have good car life. My car is 98 Sentra with 91k.
I am little new to car maintenance , so just want make my understanding clear with the help of you guys!!!!!

you should flush your radiator every 2 years, 3000 mile oil changes. tune ups should be done every few years (ngk plugs and wires, a new cap and rotor, fuel filter is good). Make sure u have proper power steering fluid and coolant levels.
the difference in price is quality of oil and filter. I would personally go ot a nissan dealer as they will give you proper sae oil and filter.
and try to add on bout the noise.

I get the same noise from my brakes, but only the morning after it has rained, or on a very humid day.
Surface rust tends to build up rather quickly on brake rotors, especially if you are using semi-metallic pads, versus ceramics. At least that's what mine was.
A good idea, would be to go to the local autoparts stores, and find a Haynes or the other brands of repair manuals that are like $12-20. They all have basic and mandatory service information. Plus, it will tell you how to do other stuff to your car rather than pay someone else to do it.

Don't forget the air filter!
As for prices... My oil and filter alone usually cost 25$, so you figure out how much it should REALLY cost with labor included Personally, I have no idea where they get those 3$ oil filters, 2$/gallon oil and 5$/hour mechanics, but you better be careful with teh cheapo guys. I change my oil myself, but my father (when I'm not around to change his oil) buys his own oil (Mobil1 Synth) and OEM filter and just has the mechies put that in. Might be a bit expensive but at least you know for sure what's in your car. Definetely a good idea - an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, or so they say.
BTW, in Russia all but total cheapos run synthetic oil - even on Ladas. That's in a country where people value their cars like their mothers. So consider switching - you won't regret it.

You can actually do an oil change on the ground without a jack or anything. I just slide a catch pan under the car (one of those sealed 5 gal. ones). Drain the oil out, and while it's draining reach up behind the block where you can see the filter sticking out and just unscrew it by hand (usually). Also turning the wheels all the way to the right makes things really easy.
I dropped by my local Nissan dealer's parts counter and picked up an official Nissan oil filter for $7. Followed by a stop at the local Kragen for 4 quarts of Mobil-1 10w30 Synthetic $30ish.
I had my doubts at first but the synthetic made a huge difference I could feel and hear, it did infact unlock some horsepower so it was worth the extra cost to me. Did I mention it only took me about 20 minutes to do..
