Ok, I just rolled 300,000 miles on my 93 Sentra E last week.. my question. I get about 50 miles per 1/4 tank for the first full tank..and usually 100 miles for each 1/4 tank after...
So from full to 3/4 tank I'll usually get around 50 miles..from 3/4 to 1/2 tank another 50..from 1/2 to 1/4 usually get 100 miles..and 1/4 to E takes me to the vicinity of 300 miles..
At times the I use 1/4 tank after only 30 miles, easy going commuting miles at 3 a.m. So that confuses me that so much gas is consumed periodically..and that SAME day only after work, I might use 1/8 tank driving home!!

Don't worry about it, the thing is out of scale, who cares... If it gets you good MPG overall, that's all that matters

I agree, screw it. As long as your not getting 8 miles to the gallon, then who cares. My car only has 125 thou on it and it gets about the same as yours. Just chill! Drive like you stole it!
what kind of tranny does it have? i have a 4spd manual, and i get just about the same mileage (50miles to a 1/4 tank) but then again thats with me beating on the car on a daily basis.

Hehehe don't worry about it. The stock fuel level gauge isn't perfect, look at it this way, would you rather get 50 miles on the 1st 1/4 of your tank or the last?
I noticed the same thing today, I got 60 miles on the 1st 1/4 after a fillup and I was disappointed. Who am I kidding, my other car fills up about 18 gallons and only takes premium = hurts the wallet!

When you tank is full it takes a while to start to drop. The problem is when its full the floater cannot float to the very top of the tank and is submerged. So as you burn gas and the level goes down, the floater is still at the top reading full, and will do so until the gas level drops down enough to start reading.
Also, if you think your gas milage is a bit low, try doing a full tune up to see if that will help you out.
Congrats on hitting 300k on the odo.

Using 91 Supreme Octane Fuel from Shell Gasoline V-Power
City Driving: Well on a good week, I get 29 mpg on average and on a bad week which includes a lot of flooring and speeding, I get around 26 mpg on average. And about that floater in the tank thing while the tank is full, my guage reads full up until 45 miles (on a good week) on the trip meter and by the time it reaches the first 1/4 mark, it shows 100 miles on the trip meter. The guage goes down pretty quickly from that point, not stuck at the Full (F) like on a full tank. I usually reach the 1/2 level with 180 miles on the trip. Then 250 miles on the trip when it reaches the last 1/4 level.
I just rolled to 74k today. Overall the tank gets me between 300 and 400 in city/hwy driving. Bout 100 in the first 1/4, another 100 in the second 1/4 and bout 60ish for each of the last 2 1/4 tank segments. Like everyone here said already get a tune up. But even after a full tune up, w/ 300k on the clock you're going to get worse mileage than if it were newer.

I put in 89 and get almost 30, but then again a full tune up just might do that. gas here rules, mid grade is the same price as regular usually, why spend the extra $.12 per gallon? All it needs is a bottle of injector cleaner with every oil change (feel the power after a fill up with a bottle of that shit!)

It depends on what you have done. If you advance your timing to 15* and run 87 you'd see why you'd need to spend the extra money.
