hey every one im new here but i have a 1991 sentra with a 1.6liter and it keeps fowling out plugs and loading up and i can smell gas real bad out the exause could this be egr or pcv valve?
I would guess it is either a bad oxygen sensor or a bad temperature sensor. I really don't think an egr or a pcv issue would cause you to run rich....Since if your plugs are fouling and you smell gas from the exhaust would indicate your running rich. I'm sure there are instructions somewhere in this forum on how to check the trouble codes. If you do a search on checking codes you will find it I bet. You would be doing yourself a favor if you bought a Haynes repair manual. They are avalible at most auto parts stores and would tell you how to check the codes and even how to fix your problem with alot of pretty pictures to help! Good luck let us know what happened when you get it fixed.

Hey, you need also to look at the ignition coil. they go bad at higher miles. check the spark. take a good plug and plug it on the end of one of the wires and unplug the rest off the engine. Now, hold the tip of the plug on a good engine ground. dim the lights and then crank the car and watch the spark. it should be very bright blue, it its weak, then the coil is going on you.
The o2 sensor should be the first thing to check. You can look at the codes by turning the screw on the ECU to self diagnose and watch the flashes, record how many and the pauses and check the manual for the codes. it will tell you the O2 issue if you have one. Or get a nissan consult from a nice friend.

see if your air filter is clogged. it could be the oxygen sensor or the coolant sensor, you could also have a bad fuel pressure regulator. not sure if yours is vacuum operated. if it was mine, id check the air filter, then pop the vacuum line off the regulator and see if fuel is apparent or you can smell it. is cel on?
pull codes to see if anything is recorded, if not check your coolant sensor and o2 sensor.

hey every one thanks for all the help your giving me where is the coolant sencer and where exactly is the o2 sencer also could it be a bad mass airflow meter my friend had to re wire it when he owned it it worked for a while than stoped running right any more help would be greatley appreciated
I just had a similar problem on a 89 Toyota MKII GTS with a 4AG motor, the MAF signal wire wasn't connected but everything else on the MAF was, the motor ran but super rich, when you touched the gas it would bog pretty bad.
It's very possible since you said someone re-wired the MAF, I would use caution when it comes to the MAF it's a $250-300 sensor last time i checked and frying it would not be good.
Also if you have a volt meter check out the O2 sensor, it should be a single wire type sensor right on the front of the exhaust header and should read about .2v - .4v at idle.
