I have a 98 200sx SE with GA16, stick, pretty much all stock except for a short-ram
recently I discovered my gauge meter goes crazy once a while.
it goes up to about 1000 revs above what it suppose to be. like 3000/min 3rd gear will usually be 40mpg. it will end up around 35mpg when it happens. and it also shakes and it goes up really fast when I give it gas. but the engines sounds normal(like the rev/min it suppose to be), so I'm guessing that there is something wrong with the gauge or the senser

any ideas?
I had my tachometer go bad on me. It would get to lie 3K and bounce around, then I think it got to the point where it didn't work period sometimes. I just replaced it with one from a spare cluster I had from when my speedo went bad. Works fine now.

does the engine/ car shake or just the needle in the gauge cluster. If its the car, you might have a bad maf (which you should get a voltemeter to check the voltage). If you need a new gauge cluster, i have an all black one from a 97 200sx with bout 77k on it, i would sell to you. Also, how does it idle. Is it funny or good. does this problem only happen when you drive around 35 mph. Any other details would help
