i own an auto 96 200sx. i'm planning on doing a swap in the next couple of months. i was wondering how hard it is to change from auto to manual. if any of you guys know of sites that explain this in detail it would be cool. peace.

i will be doing the auto-manual swap after i get out of school, which is after this week. i figure it will take me and a friend about two weeks to do. ill be sure to take a lot of pics. tell you how it goes.
swapping in a manual is gonna be a lot of work. make sure you have all the parts you need ie: manual transmission mounts, ecu from identical car only with 5spd, master clutch cyl, clutch assembly with pedal, and axles from an identical car but with 5spd. it's a lot of work and a lot of money... when i looked into doing it with my first car, a 94 accord, i decided it would be best if i just sold it and bought a car with a 5spd.

i dont think the ECU needs to be changed. I have been told that there its the same ECU just needs to be reprogramed. Im getting the swap done when i get my DET put in some time in Feb..... I will let you all know what is needed then.

ya it doesnt HAVE to be swapped to a manual ecu, but the Check Engine Light might pop up. the main difference between the two ecus is that the auto tells the tranny when to shift, which wont matter much since you control all the shifting.
as for the parts, im covered. had my shop source all the parts for me.
Much luck Deric on your swap, anyways, i thought you were going to take it to Premier?? I am swapping out my clutch and i'll tell you, if you need to replace your cv boots, do it at the same time. If you want to put in a lighter flywheel, do it then. I regret starting today but oh well. I will take it to a shop next time. It took me 4 hours just disconnecting the sensors, taking out the axles, and disconnecting the tranny.
we are doing my 92. It will take a day. I don't have to change the axels on the 92. The ECU doesn't need changed, but the idle needs lowered to 500 rpm from 800 rpm. Turn the AAC valve screw down with the TPS off. The parts swap easy and will take no time. I am doing a JWT clutch, flywheel, and Limited Slip from Phantom Grip. The baby is light enough to get under the car and bench press the thing out and back in. Easy to do. I am pulling my oil pan off and changing the gasket and cleaning the sludge out and checking the bottom end for wear like John did on the web.
