Ditto that.
SOunds like you dont need the tumbler assy correct? The ignition switch is a piece that screws to the back of the tumbler assy, but you will see that in YOUR manual.

The two bolts that keep the ignition switch attached to the steering wheel column are riveted so they have to be drilled out. YES, you can install a remote start in your car if it's automatic. It's not recommended in cars with manual trans but it could be done. Even with a remote start you'll still need your key to unlock the steering wheel. Most likely you have an airbag so you want to be extra careful when you work around the steering wheel column. I'd start by taking apart the shifter console and see if there's any kind of spring caught in the mechanism... before you change your ignition switch. You can always clean and rebuild your switch and put it back in.

The ignition switch(part with electrical contacts) is seperate from the tumbler assy.(part that you put the key in and turn)
Depending on the size of your hands it is a relativly simple procedure.
1st take off the stearing colum shroud . locate the tumbler assy , at the rear of it will be a plastic piece with a wire harness pluged into it( usaully white). This is the ignition switch. That is usaully the culprit given the symptoms you are describing .They cost around 30-60 bucks
There will be two small screws 180 deg. apart that should be visable after unpluging the harness. Then its just a matter of R&R.It is nice to have an assortment of screwdrivers with various lengths .
Hope this helps
Good luck!

Before you do this have you put a volt meter on your stater switch wire and made sure that its not the selonoid ?
