I am not all up on my B13's but what most auto makers do is install fuseable links near the begining on the wiring nissan has done this in the B11-12 chasiss I am sure yours is similar the fusable link is a wire that will burn if there is a direct short, like when you grounded out your alt lead, to avoid a major car fire or other real bad things so get a manual and a testlight and go to town.

Take this as a lesson. ALWAYS disconnect the battery cables when working on anything electrical related.

the main fusible links come off that big red block connected to your battery's positive terminal. they actually unplug at the red block and at another connector on the other end. the links are about 3" long altogether. there's a secondary fuse panel just to the right of the battery in a panel mounted to the inside of the fender. I think there's a main fuse in there. but definitely check the fusible links. a good continuity tester or ohmmeter will verify them, but make sure you disconnect the battery beforehand.
