I need help really bad. My wife has a 96 sentra gxe daily driver and there is a really bad oil leak. I dont know where exactly its coming from because the whole pulley side of the motor is soaked with oil front to back. I dont know a thing about sentra's so i need a little help. Is there an external oil pump? maybe thats leaking.
the alt, a/c comp, main crank, everything is gobbed with oil. i put in 2 quarts a week for the past 2 weeks. this sucks!!!!! also, the cae has 110k miles on it.
Going to clean the motor tomorrow, lets see maybe i can track it some how.

Hey, change it or have it changed right away, I mean today, because if the alternator is soaked in the oil, it will die. means $$, oh and let us know how it went

I have the same problem. If you have a shop do it... it is by no means cheap (They told me $1200!! I could buy a NEW motor!). That's why mine isn't finished. It sucks having to top her off every 2 days or so.
Are there any specials tools I need to do this or will an ordinary puller work?

Wow, never go to that shop again. I had mine changed by my mechanic when I first bought the car and got it inspected, and it was like 6 bucks for that part, and he charged me 50 for labor. Anything over 100 is insane.

I've never had them work on my car, and I plan to keep it that way. I used to work for Firestone... I went over to my old shop and asked them and they told me I should just do it myself cause its a couple dollar part. Thing is I don't really have the time to do it.
Special tools = a helper, a crowbar, and a hammer. And a cloth so you won't mess up your oil pan. At least that's what I recommend for getting the pulley off. You can try renting a pulley puller, but I went to 3 auto places and they all didn't have the right ones.

Sounds like a plan to me! I have like 5 different gear pullers here... but I think they are all to big to fit in that small space. Maybe I'll try to do it on the weekend or something.
20w50 oil works fine for me its all a matter of me getting off my lazy ass and doing the job....

I second the statement about the alternator... my oil leak caused the untimely death of two alternators, the second one actually got red-hot and caught on fire. (I'm sure the engine degreaser helped with that too.... duhhhhhhhh)
all in all, it's maybe a 2-hour job.
the FSM tells you to remove the timing cover from the motor... that's not necessary. just take off the wheel, the plastic shield, the belts and the crank pulley, and you're halfway finished...

Are you serious? Thats why I haven't done it, because the FSM told me to take all that crap off and it sounded & looked like a real pain in the ass. Stupid books...
