How long does a stock clutch last usually? I have a 99 sentra gxe with the 1.6. Last night while coming to a stop I couldnt shift into third or any gear. I turned the car off and could shift to neutral. I could also shift very roughly into other gears while the car was off. I finally got it to go by starting it in first gear and when it jumped ofrward hit the gas and got home. Today I checked the clutch cable and replaced it. I thought I had it the car would roll when the clutch was engaged. Then I go to start it and it jumps again so I mess with the free play still no good and now it wont even roll when the clutch is engaged. I put it back to where it was. I dont drive really hard. I have never raced it, I only have 64500 miles on it. I havent done that many high rpm dumps. How long does it take to change the clutch/ how about the difficulty of it on a 1-10 basis? What kind of clutch would you guys recommend? I dont want to spen a whole lot on it, Im trying to get a house right now. I dont have any mods except a k&n drop in filter and I will probally stay na to keep it cheap. I will have somebody help me so it will be a little easier. Thanks any comments would be great.

Thats what I have always heard. I am not hard on it but being what is going on with my car its the only thing I can think of. Any thoughts on what could be wrong
the changwe out is about 3 to 4 hrs. i have done mine twice in the last year thanks to a bad pressure plate that broke into 3 pieces. make sure you have 2 jacks and some 2x6 to support the motor and the other jack for the tranny then it is only the shift linkage and electrical connections and like 10 bolts to drpo the tranny. (also the driveshafts) then it is all putting it back together. I do recomend putting your tranny bolts in a pattern so you know where they go upon replacement. I know from expierence that it is a bitch to find out where the go after the fact. Good luck!!
they should last but since we say should you may have gotten a bad clutch or oil on your clutch. have jack stands not 2 jacks lift the car and rest it on the stands get the big ones that way you cannot break them beside they will work on other cars as well. Also have a catch pan for the used 90w and remember to refill have a manual handy
Alright thanks guys. I will use jack stands. I also have two jacks in case I need them. Im thinking of getting another nissan clutch. 3-4 hours isnt to bad. When I called nissan for the price of the clutch I asked how much it would be for them to do it they said close to 600. Thats like 100 an hour no thanks I said.
Well this weekend I got the clutch changed. The clutch plate actually broke right by where the springs go. The hole by the spring seemed to create a breaking point. Has anyone seen this. I did the job at my dads because he has a garage and I dont. He said he had never seen anything like it before. The spring got caught in the pressure plate and thats what went wrong. The plate itself was only about half way worn. I think I got a faulty clutch. Hopefully the new one will last longer
depends where you go, a machine shop will probably do it really cheap. Checker auto parts will do it for 40 here, so it's probably the same price wherever you are if you've got a Checker.

Usually it is about $40 to $50, depending on where you go. O'Reilly's usually has a special going on that they resurface flywheels and brake rotors for free if you buy certain products, it is usually oil or something you need anyway.
