Ok so my girlfriend has the exact same car as me, 92 Nissan Sentra, except hers is an automatic with 160,000+ miles on it. Well basically we are going to Canada with some friends tomorrow, so I ordered some parts for it to give it a tune-up. While changing the rotor, I had to fight with it, and then the plastic came off, but the little metal ring inside was still on the distributor. Basically I ended up spraying it with a bunch of PB Breaker, and I eventually got it off, but the metal part that comes out got spun, and I used a screwdriver to pry the metal ring off. Now the car runs, barely, I can floor it, and the car will not rev up while in drive. The wires are in the right order, I triple checked it. Basically either the distributor is shot, or the PB still needs to dry out. Either way, I am giving her my distributor, and so I need to go to a junkyard and pull one, and I was wondering if any GA16DE distributor will work, or if I will need a B13 one, since it seems that one had an extra wire on the cap? Also I was wondering if maybe I just change the timing, or something, by spinning that little metal bar that comes out of the distributor. I am pretty much open to any idea that could save me 200 bucks. Thanks guys.
You may have screwed up the distributor. I had the same exact thing happen to me. Is there any play in the rotor? I mean can you rotate it at all? If so, the distributor is shot. The good news, is they are fairly cheap from the local yards. Yes, it needs to be from a GA16DE, but you can also use a B12 one as well.
Unless you loosened the 2 distributor hold down bolts, you didn't hurt timing.
There is also a possibility that you got PB blaster, or dirt in the inside of the distributor. There is some kind of encoder in there that my need to be cleaned.

Take note whether your distributor is External coil(5 cables) or internal coil(4 cables) type.

When I was trying to get the metal ring off with clamps, it did spin, and the metal bar thats on the distributor spun with it, it would go about a quarter turn or so each way, but would stop. I did start to take off the distributor, then decided to put it back on, so I might have changed the timing too. Is there any timing I could have put it too that would make it basically not rev up at all, or not start (I tried to start it this morning, and it wouldn't even do that anymore)?

Ok so today I went to the junk yard and pulled a distributor, put it on, but the car still won't start. Was I wrong to install it to just line up the two little prongs on the engine side with the wholes in the engine? Does it matter what way the cap is on the car? Because right now the screw is facing me, where as before on the old distributor it was facing the firewall. Could I have screwed up anything else by breaking the old distributor? Any help would be great. Thanks.
Try to flip it 180 degrees see if that changes anything. If that fails try this....I'm doing this by memory so check your maual first it goes something like this...
If you have a manual it describes how to set your distributor in properly. On my nx2000 I had to get the #1 piston at TDC top dead center. Pull the #1 plug. Crank the car with the cap off. Have somebody or yourself at the #1 whole and feel for a gush of air coming out while cranking. Once you feel that gush stop cranking immediately. This means the #1 piston is all the way up and and from this point you install your distributor.
I had the same exact thing happen to my car and damn it was a pain to trouble shoot with all the things that can be wrong with the distributor. Make sure that there are absolutely no skuff marks on your distributor or the area where it goes into. These can affect rotation.

I looked in the FSM, and couldn't find anything about installing the distributor, but I took your advice about putting the #1 piston at TDC, and I got it running. I have it "timed" by ear as of right now, as I gotta go borrow a timing gun from my friend, which I'll do later today. THANKS!

Yeah what was amazing is that after I borrowed a timing gun, and got it in timing mode, it turns out it was exactly at 10 degrees. I mean I know you can't time by ear, but I was just amazed I was right on.
