Vtech is strait Honda and Acura, also makes phones
vtech only makes phone. vtec on the otherhand, is "strait honda and acura"
and if you want variable cams/valvelift/whatever you wanna call it, youll want to look into an SR20VE swap. Neo-VVL

LMAO at the phone comment I have to tell all the people I know that has Honda's hows it feel to have a phone built into there motors! Sadly most wont even notice the names are not the same, I mean what can one they did buy a Honda after all how smart could they be to pick that over Nissan!
hello, Im new to this site and I would like to find out if there is such a thing as a GA16 vtech engine. Im from Trinidad in the West Indies
well im not sure if you have it were your from but in the states our ga16's have a VTC system. it uses oil pressure to advance the intake cam from 3250-6500rpm not exactly sure if hats the right range but it is really close to that. it shuts off after 6500rpm wich is why people like the JWT cams wich alows it to work all the way to the redline. but i kno that the uk cars does not have this vtc on their cars. this vtc is in no way like a honda v-tec wich uses another set of valves to be open when engaged. i hope this clears some things up for you.
as for the v-tec thing i think thas how it works...but im not a honda guy im 100%nissan.
VTEC, variable timing and engine control, operates from a designated rpm set in the factory computer and guided by a VTEC oil pressure solenoid which uses a series of oil pathways to use oil pressure as means to move the cam lobes set on the camshaft. As the oil pressure increases with the rpms of the engine the pressure builds up, pops the valve, and literally 'flips' the "hot" cams onto the tappets on the valves effectively changing the valve sequence. VTEC, like on my B18C in my GS-R operates with 3 cam lobes for each valve. One is the mild cam for low end torque ,one is the hot cam for high end, and the third is a guide. VTEC for my B18 comes in two stages, one from 3250-5950 and another stage from 5950-8250. VTEC doesnt shut off until the engine falls back below the preset rpm for the first stage of VTEC.
B16C's in Civic Si's have single stage VTEC and the new RSX-S has intelligent VTEC (VTEC-i) which can adjust the engagement of VTEC withing a broad spectrum of variable settings.
(Sorry. Im a Honda guru :-D) Jus settin the fact straight.

I second Wes' comment. I looked it up and it is indeed a SR series. VTEC is also an exclusive thing to Honda/Acura, patented in 165 countries so I doubt anyone will be putting VTEC on any other make. Given other manufacturers to have versions of Honda's idea, they used very different means for variable timing for example Toyota uses purely electronic impulses that scan embeded chips in the lobes themselves to determine the speed and position of each cam lobe.
As far as I know Honda and Toyota are the only mass producers of this particular means of variable timing, Honda being the only one to use oil pressure and Toyota being the only one to use embeded scanning technology.
DONALD> Test drive the new Acura RSX Type S.... I believe that you'll find similar spirited driving. Ive driven one S2000, it was a early model, and it was fun wrenching it out to 9000 rpm shifts but this new RSX-S is definitely still headspinning with a new 8450rpm redline. Give it a whirl, Im sure you'll love it. BTW, the predecesor to the current S2K's engine is the H22 that is in the late model Prelude Type-SH.
