THe 98-04 3.3 use a belt. The 4 cylider trucks of those years are the ones with chains. The 05 4.0 uses chains.
Nissan reccomends 105k intervals for the timing belt for the years above.

Your 2.5 is a timing chain.
How do you like the truck so far, and hows the power from the 2.5?

Power/Accel & torque are excellent.. sometimes you feel like you've got a 6 cylinder engine in there. It's mated to the 5 spd auto transmission, which I think is the same one the new 6 cylinder engine uses. I live on top of an incline/hill, and everytime I drive down, the trans automatically downshifts at a certain point during the decline.. someone told me that's a feature of this new transmission.

That's what I thought, til I read the manual and Frontier brochure that makes it look like Hill Descent Assist is an Optional Feature avail. only in special package Frontiers with the 6 cylinder engine (there's a button for it if you have this feature, it looks like, and thus appears that it has to be manually activated).

The manual also states that Hill Assist only works with 4X4 engaged! I park in a parking garage at work, and I have to ride the brakes to keep the truck from gaining too much speed as I decend to the exit, so I tried engaging the hill assist, and it just flashes at you and the truck keep rolling! It's intended for off-road use like the electronic locking rear end, both will only engage when 4X4 is engaged.
