Angry 2000 Frontier Crew speedmeter/tach/trans

Periodically the speedmeter and tach quit working. They come back on in a minute to a day. Now the transmission has had an incident where it sounded like it couldn't change gears and could only go 40 mph (expressway of course). Dash went out at the same time. Finally tried dropping to 2nd (auto trans). No power at all. Then put it back in N and it worked OK and the dash came back on.

Went to dealer (Carmax) and they could get it to malfuntion so they said next time it breaks down, take it to a Nissan Service Center.

Has anyone heard of this? The guy at car Max siad he heard of a Nissan Sentra that had to have the dash replaced to fix a similiar problem. It sounds like a ground short.

Help!

The speedo, tach, etc. went out (froze the needles in place) on my 2000 frontier SE cc. The dealership replaced the Instrument Cluster Microprocessor fortunately under warranty at the time and it fixed the problem.
