2009 Frontier lemon.

Hi folks, couple of questions for people with knowledge.
Can a speed sensor be spliced into the wiring harness if the snap plugs are gone? and did this year Fronty come from the factory with red power steering pump fluid? I removed and replaced with recommended clear, and, if this fluid was entered in the system by the dealer I bought it from (2nd owner) will it have damaged the steering rack after 50k miles?
I've had to replace the radiator (plastic fail), 2 hubs, tierods, tire press. sensor, and now power steering pump since 2015. Steering is fine to the touch but making a hell of a racket, especially after changing the fluid.
Anybody else have these problems with the 2006 and up?

Crow,

One of the Biggest Problem's with the Nissan Midsize Truck, is Young people that buy them and Abuse them in Mud, OffRoading, and Water, because they are the cheapest Midsize Truck. Sound's like you got one that was abused.

Someone will be along shortly with answer's to your specfic question's.

The Owner's Manual,, tell's you which Oil's and Fluid's to use for your truck.

If your truck is a V6 with AT, read up on Coolant Contamination with AT Fluid.

Good Luck

The P/S comes from the factory with Nissan-matic Type "D" ATF, which is red. Most Asian vehicles use red power steering fluid, whereas clear or amber is typically more common in US domestics.
TPMS sensors typically last around 6-7 years before they start having issues with weak batteries, which are non-replaceable. I use Dorman Direct-fit TPMS sensors from Rockauto.com which run about $40 each and have a lifetime limited warranty.
Two hubs and tie rods are a bit unusual at only 50,000 miles, but, as previously suggested, it "may" have been due to abuse by the former owner. There were a number of common problems on these trucks, especially the first few years. They include failing fuel sending units, upper timing chain "whine" and radiator cooler failure, which should not be an issue for you since you've replaced your original radiator.

Guess my mechanic was wrong about the red p.s fluid. Thanks.
The truck was owned by a mature (50ish) male, he traded it for a new Hemi Ram after 6k miles of not pulling his boat satisfactorily. So if it was abused it would probably show in the trans & motor? Forgot to mention I had to replace the warped aluminum drive shaft with a steel one, and the driver side window motor and cables pooched. makes it a lemon in my eyes.
I still love the truck and am ok replacing the whole thing part by part, with better performance parts, unless I win a new Colorado diesel... So, I'm gonna follow this forum and make it better than new. Thanks in advance for the knowledge.

You can also find a lot of good info at ClubFrontier.com and in the R51 Pathfinder section at TheNissanPath.com. Even though the Pathfinder has a different body and rear suspension, there are many similarities because they use the same front suspension, engine and transmission.
