It's the cluster, good luck finding one new. We have to wait 6 weeks or more to get one at my dealership. It is a very common problem with these trucks

Nope, you'll need to find a curcuit board. There has to be avender out there somewhere that makes them. But we are only allowed to use Nissan so I have never really looked

There's a place that rebuilds these for $199 and has a record of quick turnaround. I've heard good things from people who have used them:

Instrument Cluster Repair, Speedometer Repair, Odometer Repair

A good friend of mine just bought a '98 Frontier and it had a bad instrument cluster. The odo worked fine but the speedo would go nuts at higher speeds.

He sent it off to those Wizard guys and they fixed it right up. Not cheap, but not much of an alternative if you want instruments! From what they told him, there's an integrated circuit chip that goes bad and causes the problem.

I've seen quite a few in the Craigslist with bad clusters, and they all seem to have around 170-180K.

My '98 Frontier only has 67,000 miles on it and the cluster works fine, am hoping for many more miles before having issues!!

Cheers..........ed

They warranty the repair for two years, or, for a small fee, they will extend it to 5 years, per their website.
