Fuel pump issue?

Thank you for your time...here is the scenario....I own a 1993 2.4L 2WD Nissan truck that has just topped 210,000 miles. I have replaced (or had done) the past 20-30k miles the alternator, starter, water pump, & master cylinder....all learning as I went, but with the help of good ol dad and manual have gone through pretty good. Now a few days ago I 'thought' had a run out of gas...it was very very low....so it sputtered (though not in the normal way it does when I do run out of gas...dont ask lol)...usuallY I encounter air...sputter...then air ... sputter...you know...anyways, then it died. I pulled into a place and eventually put 1 gallon in it...nothing, never did keep running when cranked. So I remembered dads teachings, and I splashed some in the carb, it ran for a small bit, then died. Some nice joe driving by stopped and said I should put more gas in the tank, so we put 4 gallons in...still wouldnt start (after staying with me for an hour or so he said it had to be the filter or pump). Whenever I have someone start it, then I adjust the throttle with that thing behind the carb, and manuallly port gas in the carb, I can keep it running, but once I stop manually feeding it, it dies. There was a vacum hose disconnected I saw, I reconnected it, same issue. Per the Chilton manual (though I was going off a 98 edition for the Frontier, when I own a 93 Truck)...it said have someone turn the key to the ON position and have someone listen near the gas tank for a whirl sound of the fuel pump...I never heard that sound, nor did her (gf)...but she says normally she does (my hearing is shot anyways). When I crank the engine it does crank normally...over and over again, but never starts.

Does this sound like the fuel pump has gone out (it has never been replaced)?

I just wanted to make sure before I replace it (at 199 for the pump per online estimates)...becuase one time I replaced the starter thinking it had gone out and it was some dumb relay that broke when you have the clutch down (doah!) was why it wouldnt start...but hey, got a starter out of.

Thank you....
Jimmy

sounds like the fuel pump to me. i think a mechanic can measure the fuel pressure to make sure before changing the pump. when mine went out, it felt like my engine needed a MAJOR tune up. it was hesitating like crazy.
