So in January of 2006 I had Smithtown Nissan in Smithtown, NY fix my vehicle. I had an extended warranty and paid $50 co-pay for repairs. They had to replace the knock sensor (after I went back and forth with them trying to find the problem, and I told them to check the knock sensor).
Last month I had the knock sensor replaced again by Amity Nissan in Amityville, NY - They said the knock sensor went bad and whoever installed it the first time didn't do the job right.
So I call nissan corporate to get reimbursed for repairs ($2,000). After a month they finally get back to me saying they won't cover repairs. I ask why, they go "its out of warranty" so i explain it should be covered since it was never installed properly. They keep telling me how "just because one shop didnt like the quality of work of another doesnt mean we'll cover it"... so i tell her "didnt like the quality?? they said flat out it wasnt installed right" and i tell her "is this what you tell your customers, they pay for extended warranties and the job only gets half-done because its an extended warranty issue" i also tell her "you guys send me surveys everytime i have my truck serviced always wanting to know how the dealership did, well here i am telling you a negative thing and you don't want to hear it... you guys just want to hear all the positive things but the minute something goes wrong, you dont wanna know anything"
Im mad now... she asked me to fax her over all my serivce invoices from the first time knock sensor was replaced to 2nd time... not sure what thats gonna do, ive already explained to her the problem... it ran fine for a while but then began to fail because of improper installation and ive had 2 cats go bad and a few cracked manifolds since... im pissed now
last time i buy a nissan vehicle i'll tell ya that, they just lost a customer for putting me through this bullshit
hope it was worth making $2,000 off me, because they'll never make another dime when it comes to buying another vehicle
You don't say your year or model or mileage... I you have had some cracked manifold I will assume it's before 2003. I'd say that you have had some pretty bad luck with your service and shouldn't blame the Nissan manufacture too much (except for the cracked manifold). If you got the crack replaced under warranty consider yourself lucky.
When trying to work with the manufacture always do what they ask first, then if phone rep doesn't respond ask to see her department head. Keep all documents when you call and the people you talk with before talking to department head. Never get mad over the phone it will get you no where. Sound professional and know what you are asking/talking about.
One more thing if you are looking to not buy another Nissan then you should probably take GM off your list too since you don't like repairs.
I had a problem a long time ago, the dealership did an oil change, the oil plug was loose and came undone, and i drove about 60 miles like that... had to have the truck flatbedded to them because it wouldnt run right... they said the truck looked fine. They had a specialist from nissan take a look at the truck since i called to complain, the engines been fine since.
But yeah the knock sensor should be covered since nissan did a bad job fixing it the first tmie, sucks that within lke 20k miles im replacing it, again...
The truck has 97k miles on it, and it looks pretty new, i take care of it. I get problems fixed as they happen and what not... right now only problem i know of is the ABS light goes on and off...
nissan replaced some sensor, TWICE now, still same problem.. it cost me $500 with labor for the sensor... ihad i known it was just a sensor i woulda bought it myself and installed it myself, easy enough to get to... go figure though same problem... they said it was under the center console and my power wires for switches mighta caused it... sept those wires have been there, for 4 1/2 years now... plus thats the airbag sensor i think not the abs sensor.
There are a couple forums that I have checked for doing the service part of my truck. They seem to be good at explaining things. Also I have a hayes manual and service manuals that help too. By no means I am an expert. But I figure that I give it my best shot.
I don't like having service center do my work so much anymore. The dealerships are outrageous and there have been two local mechanics that have either charged me for not completing the service or have wrecked the car in some way. So I just figure it out myself. I've completed bearings, ball joints, radiator flush, etc. I just take my time
You should have (maybe you did) get that comment "didn't install it correctly" written down. Then there is proof. If you also have the receipts it helps too. State your case to Nissan dealership and to Nissan itself.
Repair centers, including dealerships, are only as good the the techs they employ. It takes a good bit of knowledge and experience, among other things, to be a good tech on today's vehicles. The manufacturer pays so little to do their warranty work that it's tough to make a buck in a flat rate shop. Every TV news program at one time or another has done a show exposing some crooked mechanic, casting a bad shadow on all techs, good or bad. To top it off, a lot of dealerships will cut a mechanic when he gets to a descent $/hr. rate so they can hire some kid at half that rate, and loose all that experience. Now that experienced tech has to start at the bottom somewhere else. So why are there so many complaints about car repairs and where are all the "good techs?"---Many of them finally say the heck with it and find another profession for equal or better pay and half the abuse!
