ERASE DTC FROM OBD BUT SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT STILL COMES ON!

okay like the topic said i erased the trouble code from the OBD II system from my dad's nissan frontier 2000. but the stupid light still comes on even though the system doesnt contain any codes. HELP!

Well, there are a number of things it could be, but how are you erasing the codes? With a GST ( Generic Scan Tool)? They normally can find most codes, but all manufacturers have proprietary codes that cannot be read with a GST. These usually are for things other than the standardized powertrain codes which are required to be readable by law. These could be for things like ABS or the Air Bag/Seatbelt pre-tensioner systems ( SRS). Unfortunately, these can only be read by a genuine Nissan Consult II scanner, which is dealer only( or you can buy one for big $$$). Unfortunately , this kind of anti- competitive practice is legal.

i just disconnected the cable to the battery for a few hours. its fine now. the light went off. thanks anyways though.
