but I still have brakes. When I press on the brake I hear a clicking noise coming from the console around the glovebox. Any ideas?
Just thought of another possibility as far as the clicking goes. Is it an automatic? Could it be the brake/shift-lever lock-out you're hearing click when you press the brake?

I had the same thing happen to me... the clicking is that park lock switch (nothing wrong there)...but my brake light was caused by low fluid in the master cylinder. Topped it off, and no problems since.
Hope it's not this but, my brake light and battery light came on at the same time. It turned out to be the alternator was dead. I think the ABS was sensing low power which kicked off the light. I am not an expert. Hopefully your issue is just low fluid.
Low fluid is likely the culprit. I would look at the condition of the brake linings at the same time because when mine goes low, it is usually an indication of a need for service soon. The fluid is likely all in the calipers now and when you go to change the pads, it will be sent back into the resivoir on top of the master cylinder. If you overfill it, it will puke out the top when you go to change the pads. I used to deliver pizza with my Frontier, and when the light came on it was an indicator that I had 2 weeks until the front pad wear sensors would start squealing.
