Brake Size, Tranny fluid change, & Shocks...

I have a '98 Frontier 4x4 with a grinding rear brake pad. I have been told that there are two sizes for the truck; I assume that the 11 inch pads are for the 4x4, or does the 4x4 get the 10 inch pads? I really don't want to take the drum off just to see! And what are the best midgrade pads to get. I don't want to spend a lot, but I don't want to have to worry about replacing these within the next few years.

Also, I noticed in another post someone mentioning synthetic gear oil for the transmission. My truck is a 5 speed, and has likely never had the fluid changed. Is it okay to change to synthetic after 170K miles using regular?

I have ordered new shocks; Tokico Trek Master. I have never replaced shocks b4, it seems easy, but is there anything I may run into?

I don't know about the rr drums, but a good parts guy should. I'd check w/Napa.
The change to synthetic should be ok, just be sure it's GL-4, not GL5. Kinda hard to find. Amsoil. com is one source.
Shocks'll be pretty straight forward, maybe a little nasty.

I can't seem to find anything that tells me which size rear pads to put on my truck. I checked with Napa and they told me I'd have to take the drum off to see.

Actually, you need to measure the brake shoe. Width x length, and inner drum diameter.
