Diesel Frontier

A few questions.

In browsing through the Haynes manual, I saw some reference to diesel engines in the troubleshooting section.

Any word on whether there are diesels available for older model Frontiers (99XE/3.3L/4wd)?

I can't seem to put the manual down.

Would like to tackle a timing belt replacement.

Is this recommended for a weekend mechanic? Is this recommended for 110k?

I have not had time to have the dealer check the fuel sending unit (service bulletin) issue. Anyone having trouble with these things?

Not sure if the nissan diesel was ever available in the US. Toyota had them for a couple of years. I know in Europe and Asia they are popular. I guess we can thank the EPA for that. In Europe the Frontiers are called Navara. They do offer a 175hp diesel in those vehicles. (Lucky Bastards!) In answer to your timing belt question the answer is yes and yes. Lotsa luck.

Timing belt on a VG is do able, but I would probably pull the upper intake, valve covers, and loosen the rocker shafts first as this makes it easier to align it.Then you can just tighten it back up an it should be OK.I did this when I did a timing belt on a VG30E 91 Maxima.

I've done 3 timing belts on VG engines and never had to remove intakes or valve covers for any reason. Pulling the plugs is a good idea, though.
