2-way versus 3-way

It seems there are some strong opinions about 2-way speakers versus 3-way. I was planning on putting in some 3-way 6x9's in the front doors of my '06 Crew Cab Frontier, which would be followed by replacement speakers in the rear doors. I have an aftermarket Sony deck that I will be installing in the next few days.

Seems to me 3-way is better, especially if you aren't planning to add subs (which I am not, at least initially).

Any links to pages that talk about the merits of 2-way over 3-way or vice versa?

You don't get any better bass response from a 3-way speaker than you will the 2-way speaker of the same model, so it won't help you in your quest to not add subwoofers.

The 3-way speaker has a second tweeter that produces better high to mid-range frequencies. However, if you typically like to emphasize high- and low-frequency sounds, you may find that the 3-way sounds a little like you're listening to it through a tube with the higher mid-range response.
