I am new here so forgive me if I do things wrong.I have a 02 frontier 2wd XE and would like some advice on how to get more power out of the bottom to the mid range power bands.I dont have the funds for things like a cold air intake system. What I need to know is how to punch my truck up a little, myself in the driveway.Let me say what I have done up till now.I have installed the iridium spark plugs, flowmaster muffler, removed the resanator chamber from the air intake line going to the airfilter.Cant afford a K&N or other type of highflow airfilter at this time.I came here because you guys know what you are talking about or you know where to get the answers. Also my service engine light has came on when I removed the resanator chamber, but I moved the air temp sensor over to the airbox.Could that be the reason for that?If anyone could help I would be very greatful. Thanks so much.

Well, I would certainly never say that I knew what I was talking about, so keep that in mind.
Besides what you've already done, you could consider playing with advancing the timing (you'll probably have to go with a higher octane gas though), put in lower (higher number) gears, get a cheap electric fan off of eBay or the junkyard and replace the clutch fan, run a slightly lower temp thermostat. The gains off of all of the above (except maybe the gears) probably won't be very noticeable. I would think moving your sensor could very easily have set off a code. Have you tried to reset the computer?
Just some thoughts.

There are two ways to get power, cubic inches or cubic dollars, and the amount of power is directly proportional to either. With your limited budget do not expect any huge increases in power. Having said that the cheapest things to do are a K&N filter (about $40.00), remove the intake restrictions, advance the timing, and go to a cooler thermostat (180 degree versus 195 degree installed; causes the engine to run richer). Keep in mind that theses changes, while adding power, may also reduce gas mileage or require premium fuel. My advice, live with what you have until the budget allows significant upgrades. Even then, there's not a whole lot out there for the 2.4 liter engine.
Relative to the check engine light: Take the truck over to one of the auto parts places that will read the code for free. Once the code os known the speculation can begin as to what is wrong.
