Couldn't make this up if I tried...

I'm in the process of renovating the exterior of my home... siding, roof, gutters, front stoop, etc... Last wednesday, I had to drop by my local suburban stone yard to pickup four small pieces of limestone I had custom cut.

I go into the office and pay, and they instruct me to pull around back, into the yard, to pickup my order. I drive around back, backup to the loading dock, and place my order in some moving blankets in the bad.

All of the sudden, i hear a guy screaming... apparently the fork lift he was using on the other side of the yard was rolling away... WITHOUT HIM. yes... a RUNAWAY forklift. I turn around, and in an instant I see this forklift smash into the passenger side of my 3 week old NISMO CC. Absolutely horrible. The thing lifted the entire truck into the air on two wheels. If the guy didn't jump on the thing and stop it, it would have flipped the trick. Had I been standing 4 feet to my right, I would have been crushed to death.

Anyway, I called the police, got a report... the yard admitted fault. I got two estimates. Both in the neightborhood of $3500. Needs a new passenger door, and rocker panel. It drives fine... no frame or alignment problems thank god.

I'm just so bummed over this. I can't even look at my brand spanking new truck without being completely aggrivated. I know its just an inconvenience, and in the end its just a piece of metal... but it just sucks so bad.

I don't even want to drive it until its fixed. Both body shops assure me they can fix it so it is undetectable. But both say the paint needs to be blended down the entire side of the truck.

The yard first said the will take care of it... now they tell me it has to go through their insurance. I lost a half day of billable work (I'm cuirrently freelance), and I understand I'll need rental transportation for 5-7 business days.

I'll know this week if their insurance company is going to cooperate, orr give me a problem with this. I spoke to a lawyer.... and he said to let him know if its a problem, because fault is obvious... not to mention just plain negligent and dangerous.

Sorry to hear about that. I got a door ding a week after I had my truck and was freaking out about that. If I saw what happened to you I would have blown my top.

That sucks Rich. I had my truck rear ended when it was about 2 months old. Man, it made me ill. The guy was driving a company van, had an out-of-province liscence and insurance, and did not have a home address. What a pain.

In the end it all worked out and I ended up getting a better hitch to replace the one that was destroyed.

I sympathize man, and just make sure you are absolutely satisfied with your repair work before you sign off on anything.

Wow man...Im bummed for you! As long as no frame damage you will be fine. If you take it to a good shop, you will never know it was jacked. Good luck man, keep us updated.

Thanks for the encouraging words boys... I do appreciate them.

I have a great shop (one of my bros owns it), so I know it will be fixed as best as auto body repair and paint technology can do. They will take extra-special care of this truck I know.

Still have my PRG kit sitting in a box here... its gonna have to wait. Good thing is my Girlie bought me a tonneau for my bday. (Still deciding on truxedo and exang... thats another story...)

Sorry to hear about the mishap.

My old man works for Home Depot. I've got a quite a few "fork lift" stories.
