Has anyone installed a cai in their frontier, or at least changed their factory air filter to a K&N or brand of that sort? Does it really have an affect on the overall horesepower and response of the truck?
I think everybody has a CAI for the most part or so it seems. Yes they make a difference but my experience is that it you need an exhaust to reap full benefit.

Yep, try the search feature. One piece of advice that I can give you is that the K&N drop-in filter will gain you absolutely no horsepower or torque--dyno proven: K&N Filter Dyno Test

Hey, Rev! Haven't seen you around in a while. Good to hear from you!
Glad to see someone debunking this K&N drop-in myth. A lot of money has been wasted on those things with people trying to get performance improvements. About the only thing you can get from one of those things is maybe a little better throttle response.
I've looked at all your dyno results in the past, and I think your Web site gives a good idea that the intake needs to be paired with a good exhaust to see the best gains.
(BTW: I'm jealous about the new 6-CD changer you have. I can't find one anywhere -- even on eBay).

Hey, Bro--
I'm still on the fence about this K&N filter thing. I've had very good luck with them on some of my performance bikes, and I've seen some pretty good results using one on a big-inch V-8 performance car. Nonetheless, I've done a number of dyno tests on three different v-6 truck applications and have found that they don't add a thing. I've got no beef with K&N, and if you want a filter that you'll never have to replace (even though maintenance is a PIA) you might want one. I'm just a bit disappointed that their web site and ads say that a drop-in filter will increase horsepower and economy when that's simply not true for many applications. Well, at least you get that neat sticker to put on your bumper, and you can add it to your forum sig

Which model K&N? I have the older model (chrome tube) and I dont think it adds much if any power, it just adds intake noise which can sound cool on occasion. Was a disappointment given my past uses with MC applications.

No, stock exhaust. I dont mind the truck being quiet, but I imagine the stock exhaust is fairly restrictive. Honestly, power isnt lacking. Now my old Ranger 3.0 was a different story. I about started a riot on a Ranger site when I was looking at the Ranger 4x4 Level II, the Tacoma 4x4 and the Frontier. Obviously, I decided on the Frontier and no regrets so far.

Yeah I had 4.0 Ranger('01) and it was so slow I d idn' bother wasting money on mods.
I understand about the bitches on the Ranger boards! They got upset because I "didn't buy American"
told them Tennessee is in the US last I checked and that the Ranger is built with a bunch of Mexican parts.
I replaced the stock air filter with a stock K&R...didn't change anything else...saw absolutly no improvement at all...
