Hey just a quick question, has anyone replaced the factory speakers with alpine speakers? Im thinking of changing the speakers as Ive got an alpine deck with an avi 10" sub with amp, and Im not completely happy with the factory speakers. any suggestions? from looking at the threads it appears the in the CC, 6x9's will fit in the front doors, and 6.5's in the rear doors. any mounting problems? thanks guys.
Mucho mounting problems if you don't get the right speakers. The speakers rest in a plastic housing, and the door metal is right behind the housing. So, mounting depth is very shallow. You're limited to about 3" mounting depth. This makes your choice of 6x9 VERY limited.
I didn't believe Crutchfield's "this fits my vehicle" list until I pulled the door panel off and measured. They're pretty accurate.
I have some Alpine 3-ways that fit. They sound very nice, too. The highs and mids sound great, but the low-frequency response isn't that good. However, with a sub, you should be pleased with the overall sound.

Ild seen the crutchfield's site as well, but didnt put too much stock into it, figuring it wouldnt be that accurate. glad to hear im wrong. did you go with alpine 3 ways for front and rear doors? what about your tweeters?
Just go with 6.5 component speakers in the front and make an adapter plate to convert the stock 6x9 to 6.5. Adding the tweeters to the dash will make a huge difference. Unfortunately 6x9 component speakers are pretty rare.

Sorry for the slow response... been out of town for a few days.
To answer your question -- yes, I did put the 3-ways in the front and 2-ways in the rear. I left the stock tweeters in place.

no worries msu. ive talked with a few friends who are really into stereos, and as fancy pants suggested, Ill go with makin an adapter plate and 6.5"s, because Ive got more than enough bass with the sub, my mids are lacking. now to decide between alpine, or AVI, here's the link to the avi site. http://www.avisound.com/
well I bought the 6.5's today, went with alpines. now this might be a dumb question at 1am, interiors arent my strong suit, how the heck does the arm rest get removed from the door? does it just pop off, or are there fasteners on the backside?
I could go and buy adapter plates youre right. but whydo that when I can make them at work?
Heaven forbid!! Working on personal projects on company time?!?!?
For shame!!
That reminds me, I have a big drill bit I need to return to Maintenance . . .
