Selling my truck - good deal? Would you buy it?

Just wondering what you guys think of this pricing etc. If this is what you were looking for, would you buy it?

2000 NISSAN FRONTIER CREW CAB 2WD

3.3L, V6, Automatic Transmission, 44,000 Miles, 4 Full Doors, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Tilt Wheel, Cruise Control, Pioneer CD Player, Sliding Rear Window, Bed Liner, Dual Front Airbags, 4 Wheel ABS, Roof Rack, Bed Extender, K & N Air Filter.

Truck is a very strong runner, regular oil changes, recently changed fuel filter and also replaced front wheel bearings, rotors and disc brakes. Air conditioning is cold.

Truck has a couple of dings and scratches and so we did our Kelly blue book estimate based on “fair” condition. With this designation the Kelly Blue Book showed a price value of $9,400.

Our Price : $8400

I've found Edmund's to be the most accurate service out there by far, and yours comes up $7,900 private which actually isn't too far from your price, but I would imagine in Hawaii your price may prevail since everthing there is more expensive.

Yeah - I did the Edmunds thing and it came up as $8100 for our area with all of the options.

Based on the fact that there are less cars available here cause we're on a rock in the middle of the ocean tends to make the value worth a lot more. I also added the bed extender (cost $299 new) and it has an aftermarket Pioneer Stereo, so I figured my price is pretty fair - in reality too it's not realy in "fair" condition, it's pretty dang nice, but I put that because it has a couple of dings and scratches from the previous owner. Only has 43,500 miles though

I looked online for similar trucks with the same mileage and the only ones I found were at dealers and they all were listed for $11,000 or higher.

A dealer here just called and may buy it from me - I'm sure he'll be able to re-sell it easy for $10,500 and walk away with a $2000 profit. If it works out I guess it would benefit both of us.

People really want these trucks - they really hold their value too.

Toughest part is after cleaning it all up - the thing looks so nice Hard to sell your truck after you get her all cleaned up. I told my wife - don't look at it now or you won't want me to sell it

Sounds like a decent price. Want to drive it up? j/k

If you want 8400 for it don't forget to add a bit for wiggle room for the standard negotiations.

Have you seen any for sale in your area? If so go have a look at them to compare trucks and price.

Cheers

PS what are you getting to replce your fronty?

Not too many of this year in the area - everybody has new ones but no used ones around and the ones I do see are 2001-2002 and they are 12K to 14K

We're actually downgrading, going to replace it with a very basic 1996-1998 4 cyl ford ranger.

We were only using it on the weekends to go to the beach and go surfing. With gas prices and everything we decided it didn't make since to leave a $8000 car in the garage for 20 days of the month.

We figured it's better to just buy a little beater truck for the weekends and save on gas money.

As someone who's bought his fair share of used vehicles (and the associated heartaches), you may want to factor in the reliability and repair factor. Buying someone else's used truck that you don't know the history of and is also going to be 8-10 years old (as opposed to your 6 yr old truck) may end up biting you in the butt in the long run. You know your car's history and reliability and don't have to take someone else's word for it.

As my pop-in-law loves to say, "when you buy used, you're buying someone else's problem". I still often buy used, but only for the kid's first cars (2 down, 2 to go) or a second vehicle (my Fronty). Even then, I make sure I get an appropriate warranty, which usually means waiting for a really good dealer deal. The few times I haven't, I've gotten burned (transmission most recently).

Also, for only using it on weekends it's going to take a looooong time to realize the gas savings, which will be 20/25 vs 16/19; not a whole lot of difference for a weekend vehicle.

Good luck to you, but before you dive in, think hard about what you might be trading...

I appreciate the advice - normally I would hold on to it, but we have obligations where the cash could be put to much better use.

When I say a used truck - we're talking something in the $1500-$2000 range So I don't expect much out of it.

I've bought many a used car and hopefully will be able to find something that will fit the bill. Like I said - what we're looking for is something for Saturdays that we can put our surfboards in.....as long as it runs and gets us to the beach we could care less about how it looks etc.
