Does any one have an opinion on the K&N Air Filters? I have heard mixed opinions and was curious of what fellow Frontier owners thought...
Main reason, I am thinking of adding a cold air intake to my 2005 Frontier. The K&N name is the only one that i have found that I am somewhat familiar with.
What does everyone think?? Here is the link to the 3 different cold air intakes:

Thanks for any help you all have. Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well!!
Lots of people here have CAI from the major manufacturers so I'm sure you'll get some good info, but you may want to do a Search on "cold air intake" as there have been lots of good threads on this.
CAI for my 4-cyl are pretty expensive, so for now I've just got the K&N drop in filter. I've had K&N on several vehicles and, while I can't say I've really seen a performance or MPG gain, I still like using them.
I haven't been able to find any good info on them yet, but the new, no-oil, reusable filters sound very interesting. The one thing about the K&N oiled filter is that some have said if you over oil the filter you may foul your MAF.

I have the AirAid and like it. It was the least expensive CAI and still is if you get it through Premier Truck Accessories! Do a search for the Special Price David is offereing to Members of the Forum, you can get it for $170.00 shipped.
As Jerry mentioned, over oiling may cause you problems with the MAF, but unless you live in a really dusty area, you shouldn't have to clean and re-oil it for at least 50,000 miles!
I have used both CAI's and Drop-in filters in many different vehicles, and never had a problem! You will see more of a performance gain with the CAI than you will with a drop-in filter, but don't expect the gains claimed by the manufacturer! Several members have dynoed their trucks with both CAI's and aftermarket exhaust and have seen increases of between 10 - 15 HP at the rear wheel, some of these companies claim a CAI alone will get you that!
As I said, I choose AirAid due to their price and warranty, which is lifetime. aFe and K&N have also gotten excellent reviews by owners who have them, so it pretty much boils down to the look you want tna the amount you're willing to spend!

have you got a link or contact number for this guy/deal?
I have k&n's 77 series fipk. It was expensive,321.00, but it has a polished aluminum intake tube. Throttle response is improved, but the big improvment is in mid-range power. I've been a k&n fan for 10 years now and love their products, never had a problem. Whatever you choose good luck and have fun w/it
I have a 2005 Nismo Frontier and I put a K&N 63 series off-road cold air intake with a airaid throttle body spacer and it kicks ass. I like the whistling soung the spacer makes and the 63 series intake makes the most hp gain for the frontier. Gas mileage and horsepower were substantially improved. This is my recommendation!

One of the problems with the K&N filters, besides the MAP sensor hotwire contamination, is that they let a lot more dirt get through them than a stock, paper filter. So, you have to ask yourself: do you want a few more horsepower at high RPM scenarios that you probably won't encounter during 95% of your driving meanwhile letting dirt into your engine, where it will scratch up your cylinder walls? I stick with the Nissan air filter and still get 50000 miles out of it before it's even close to being due for replacement ( I do a lot of highway driving). I don't see where the K&N would do me any good...but that's just my 2 cents worth.
