Yep, had to change the oil in my Nismo. Gotta love the puny hole in the skid plate to reach the filter. Having the oil filter within reach on the top was the one thing I really liked about the Tacoma.
Every car/truck maker should do that - why can't they?
I'll give you a tip that will make your next oil change easier! That hole is for draining the oil! Go in from the passenger side wheel well, it's much easier and will save you a few nasty cuts from that puny (yet sharp) little opening in the skid plate!

I tried it that way last time and think that in the long run youre better off removing all the splash guards first. Makes for a lot less mess.
Yeah, I wish I had spent $3k more for a Toy just so I could spend 5 minutes less changing the oil.
Actually after the first time it really isn't that bad, unless you have really large hands. My only complaint was that they had tighted the oil filter too tight from the factory. No problems now though.

Easy solution. Go in from the side or drop the skid.
It was a joke. The oil filter location was one of the few things that I liked better with the Tacoma. It was that and the slightly better fuel economy. But for the $4k+ savings, I can deal with it.

I learned that on the first try. But having the filter right up top would be a nice feature that every maker should copy.
And one more plus for the Frontier - it uses the same oil filter that the wife's Honda CR-V uses. Which is nice, because I bought a case of oil filters a while back.

Same as my wife's '06 Accord too I found out a couple weeks ago.
And I dont know if I'd be so sure about slightly better/worse gas mileage. I'm averaging 19.01 mpg over 15,200 miles so far (including 20.33 this weekend while hauling over a yard of mulch back from my in-laws 300 miles from home at 70-75mph...free mulch I'll take). then again, I almost seem to be the exception...gotta love the 6-speed and low gears. wonder what I would get if I had the same rear end gears that the auto's get instead of the same as the KC stick Nismo....
And this reminds me...I gotta grab more crush washers so I can change the oil this week...gonna grab a dozen this time so I dont have to go back to the dealer for a while.
