Question Dash display showing what wheels are engaged disappeared after selecting 4x4

I tried the e-lock button last night for the first time and experienced all sorts of issues. First, the e-lock light never stopped blinking but I've read in the forum, I should have had the transmission in N, not sure if I tried that but the manual reads that 2 conditions need to be met, 1. in 4-Lo and 2. going 4MPH or less, never mentioned the Neutral part...while I'm doing this the ABS light starts blinking then the diagram that shows what wheels are engaged totally disappered so after that I switched the e-lock off, turned the 4x4 switch back to 2wheel but the 4x4 light would not turn off.... I'm glad I didn't wait to get stuck before trying the 4x4 and e-lock feature out. After I turned the truck off and back on, the truck diagram returned and the 4x4 light was off. Is somehting wrong? I think it disengaged but why would the 4x4 light not go off and why did the truck diagram disappear?

well i'd make sure you went through the proper steps first. whether you have a locker or not, you must be stopped and in neutral to go from 4hi to 4 lo. if you did not make this transition correctly then most likely the locker would not engage, and you prob "confused" the system.

try (if you hadn't done it this way)
1) 2wd>>4wd hi
2) neutral, and stopped, 4wd hi>> 4lo
3) engage your locker (still stopped and in neutral)

good luck.

I put up the owner's manual and tried again during lunch, everything worked as expected. I must have confused the system. Neutral was the missing link, maybe Nissan needs to revise the manual. Thanks for the info.

I have found over the years, and over quite a few nissans, that the 4WD is quite confusable. Heck, my old 02 CC even would get confused if you didnt do it just exactly right. I know the Old Pathfinders/ QX4s were the same way (we had 6 of em...)

I have found that the system can "get lost" if you move too fast between the settings. Wait for all the blinking icons to stop before going to the next step.

From 2H to 4H is piece of cake.

4H to 4L takes a wait

4L to 4L Locker also takes a wait.

Backing out to 2H also takes a wait!!!!

Can anyone tell me how I can tell with the seat of my pants that the locker is working? I ususally do my testing in snow.

I really couldn't tell it was working. I just know it was working because I was stuck in about 18" of hard packed snow and tried to back out of it without the locker engaged. All I was doing was digging myself deeper. But once I engaged it I backed right out of it with hardly any wheelspin. Pretty handy imo.
