Volant Cold Air and Nismo Cold Air

Hi all,
I went through the threads and I didn’t see anyone talking about their experiences with these intakes (I did see that one person had ordered a Volant kit but hadn’t received it yet). Can anyone who has these kits give an idea of gas mileage increase, looks, fitment issues, noise, etc. Also, Is the Volant top made out of carbon fiber? It looks almost like it in the picture on Performancenissanparts.com. For those of you with the NISMO intake, was their any cutting? Thanks - Alex

Volant cover

Alex,

I still have not installed my Volant, but to answer your question about the lid, it is chrome plated metal on the outer edge and has a black and silver checkerboard effect
in the center portion with a Volant logo in chrome and two
tone blue.

It has a high density black foam rubber backing that is about 1/8" thick. It should make a very good seal.

I don't like the looks of the way Volant hooks the factory breather tubing to the Volant air duct. I have been waiting
until I get a chance to run by the auto parts store to find a
breather tubing that has a 90 degree bend in it and is long enough to reach the Volant air duct in one piece.

That way it will look a little more professional. Poor me, I
worry too much about how things look as much as how they work.

There are a couple of threads on www.clubfrontier.org on the Volant. One is a group buy and there is another on
Volant install by mike3_21_21. Mike has a nice write up on this with all of the challanges he encountered. I now feel like I can install mine because of his help.

There are also a couple of threads on this on the www.nissanfrontier.net forum. You will have to go to performance section and then go to page 2. You will find one with pictures of the install by sbcfireguy. He has several shots of the installed Volant CAI. The cover he has is not the one that you will receive with the kit. The cover now looks more like what I described to you above.

There is also another thread on Volant CAI 05 Frontier on
page 1. Somewhere there is another thread that has good pictures of the Volant that you will now receive, but I have been unable to find it. maybe someone else will be able to tell you where it is.

Good luck with your decision.

OkieScot

Wow, thanks a lot for all of the info! From the sounds of it, I may go with the Nismo intake now but I will check out those other sites for more info as I didn't know they where around. Thanks - Alex
