not bad - what brand speakers were they again? i put some infinity kappa's in my front doors... looking to put something else in the rear doors... i know i kinda wish i had somehting with a little punch... hmmm lol
yea, what is that grayish stuff you used to cover the metal on the doors, and what fabric/material did you use on the speaker filler piece, thats seriously a nice install. good job. I, too, want to get a sub, but did not want to kill the space in my extended cab. i was thinking of getting on of those tight space kenwoods, prefab . i think it is an eight or something.
The speakers and deadening material are from Elemental Designs (ED). There was a little Dynamat used when the Stereo shop did there part of the installation. Then almost 2 gallons of ED eDead V3 (paint/slop on), 100' of ED eDead V1SE2 (compares to Dynamat Extreme) and 40' if ED eDead V4 which is a 1/4" foam.
The truck is pretty quiet now and I have no rattles due to the speakers.
The ED stuff sounds pretty darn good, especially for the money. If I spent twice as much, I would still be happy. They could sound better though. This is because I am running Sony amps which are not that good and one of them has a channel separation issue. I have some ED amps on the way and it should sound a little better then.

Scuba91ta, I would install the Elemental Designs EU-700 in the stock location and try to seal up the door as much as possible. That should sound really good. These two 6.5" subs sound better than my 10" that is in my Pathfinder. They are really impressive for thier size.
yeah - i was definately thinking about going that route - i like a punchier bass anyways, a small sub is the way to go for that... mu cleaner and tighter...
looks like they make some good products - i actually had in mind a jl sub - looks an awful lot like that ED you have
Scuba91ta, I was looking at the JL 6W0, but the comparisons that I read rated the ED EU-700 better. Even the local shop that I deal with listened to it the other day and they were impressed with the whole package. They sell JL stuff, but admitted that the EU-700 was better at being a sub and the JL works more like a mid bass.
Jeffro, you should be able to fit the EU-700 in the stock location. You willl need to make a baffle for it, but it should work great. I should have gone taht route first. I was at my local shop asking them about making small boxes to fit under the rear fold down seats, then the install guy says, "We can cut this out here and mount them to the bottom of the door". Well, I went for it and am happy with the results, just not with losing the pockets and the cost.. blah blah

Thanks man. Did not know how much depth there was there. I was thinking of making some kind of box behind the door panel, or just sealing up the entire door and making that the box, not sure yet.
Don't suppose the upgraded factory head unit would have enough power to push a pair of these? I was thinking of doing that with an inductor to make it a sub-woofer to mid-bass driver only, that or I will have to put in an old amp I have sitting around, but that is a lot more work.
i really think i might just put 6.5 drivers in the rear doors, thus, saving room with no sub box, and still having 4 speakers, 2 in the front doors and your midrange/ tweets in the dash. overall, i wonder how this would sound, all component of course. Man, this new stereo in my 2005 frontie may be a little easier than anticipated. I have been trying to figure out a setup for months. Symph, is the bass really pretty excellent for 2 6.5's. I dont want anything crazy either, what would you compare these 2 6.5's in the door too. Like say 1 10 inch (decent sub), or something less.
If you have a KC, then I would say that you coud get away with these subs in the rear door and a set of good components in the front door/dash. I have very little ouput coming from the rear components. They are just for fill and I am not sure that they are needed. If I had to do it over again, I would have started with the ED 6500 components in the front and the EU-700's in the rear doors.
The sound of these 6.5" subs is amazing. I listen to a very wide range of music, more than most (well exept for Rap). For songs that do not have a lot of base they blend with the mids and tweeters up front and you here really good music from the low frequency to the high end. Then, when a song has a lot of bass or low end stuff these reproduce it very well and can really thump, so to speak. Again, in my 2001 Pathfinder I added a 10" Sony sub in a box behind the reaer wheel well. It made the stock Bose system sound much better. These 6.5" subs sound better than that single 10" sub both in sound quality and overall bass output.

Read through some of the posts on the ICIXSound forum that I linked to. You will find a lot of great information on these and other speakers. You should also note that the owner of ED (Ben Milne) is a real good guy and runs a great company. Why is it great? Well, I would say that ED has the best customer service of any company that I have dealt with in years. As a matter of fact, I have read in many posts on that forum where ED offers a money back guarantee if you do not like the product. This is on top of the 3 year warranty. Then when you consider the quality of the products and the price that you pay, you can't go wrong with ED in my opinion.
