Power Modules...

Anybody know much about these? I found this one made by JET that supposedly reprograms the fuel map to allow more power from the engine. I'm interested, but just want to make sure this isn't snake oil... cough cough Turbonator.

I think JET chips are widely regarded as beneficial, but not to the degree that the mfr leads you to believe. Yes you will see benefits, but I think it also requires premium...

... and a different thermostat, if I remember correctly! At least they did on the F-150 applications. I also recall they really only added HP at WOT, not during regular driving. Of course that was a few years ago, they may have changed their program now. I had a SuperChip in my F-150 and loved it, it was a Flip-Chip with 2 programs, one for 87 Octane and one for 93 Octane. It was programed to provide HP gains across the entire RPM range and also firmed up the shifts of the automatic transmission! I sure wish they (SuperChips) would make one for the 05/06 Frontiers!

i'll simply say this... there is a reason a tuner charges 400 bucks and a cihp costs 250 or whatever it is...

i dont know the details, but the cost far outweighs the benifits...

Buddy of mine put a chip into his 86 turbo coupe, he said he could actually feel a bigger difference with the chip then the CAI and fly wheel change combined.

Hey, I appreciate the feedback. I think I was reading somewhere that it requires 89 or better octane to get results out of it... I'm just not sure that all the extra money I'd spend on gas would be worth an extra 10 or so horses.

If you look on ebay motors there are several people that offer performance upgrades. I recently saw one that you put a diode in the IAT sensor plug. It tricks your ecu into thinking that the air coming into the motor is 55 degrees. The ecu will ajust your timing and A/F mixture to give you upto 20 more horsepower. The ohms resistance is 4,300 and it works on 93-04 nissan frontiers.

That is the perfect way to destroy your engine. There is a reason the ECU uses the intake air temp. to figure out the air/fuel ratio. A diode/resistor CANNOT do the same job as the factory ECU.

Actually if it's a MAF-driven system, it wont care what the intake temp is and trying to trick the ECU with a resistor will do nothing.

If it's a MAP-driven system, the resistor will have an impact, but youre playing with fire as you are basically leaning out the fuel mixture in all conditions. That can lead to pinging and even worse, detonation (boom).

I agree... I know about these so-called "power" chips on ebay. They're like $0.25 resistors that are being sold for 10 bucks. They make your a/f mix run way too rich, as I could tell from looking at my spark plugs. I thought for 10 bucks I'd at least get a little box with wires coming out of it... last time I buy something without a pic.
