I just bought an Audiovox Xpress unit (had an old Roady2 in my last truck, but decided to upgrade for my new Frontier). In my last truck, it was really easy to get the wire from the antenna underneath the weather stripping around the windshield, and then into the cab through the opening where the the power window/mirror cords came into the cab. However, the 2006 Frontier is built a lot better, and I can't really figure out a good way to get it in. I've heard of people taking off the brake/cargo lamp, but I don't have a deep enough socket. Any alternative ideas?

There is a "through the glass" antenna made by XM. You can buy it at Courtesyparts.com or probably somewhere else online if you search for it. Only downside is it's kinda pricey, although very easy to install.
The through the glass antenna will cause some loss in signal quality, just as an FM modulator will.
I ran mine from the rear roof of the truck into the truck through the cargo light housing and then through the headliner and under the trim up to the front of the truck. It's actually a lot easier than it sounds. You'll need a ratchet with an 8mm deep-well socket to get the cargo light loose.
Here's some info I posted on the install (with a picture of the antenna. Note -- I moved the antenna closer to the cargo light after this picture was taken. The signal strenght is still fine, and you can't see the wire nearly as much...

Sweet! And much cheaper than the through the glass option

How did you get the cord through the headliner without messing it up? I looked and I was afraid I was just going to tear and rip up my headliner by trying to run the cord through there. Was there a special tool or something?

My special tool was a credit card.
Pull gently on the hole on the headliner where you removed the plastic covers for the nuts holding the cargo light in place. You can slide a credit card under the edge and pry it away from the glass a bit at a time and tuck the wire into the void that's left. When you slide the credit card along the seam, the gap will close back and keep the wire up there. You can use something like a flathead screwdriver or putty knife to poke the wire up in there if you need to.
I wouldn't be too concerned about damaging the headliner. I've pulled on it quite a bit and it always goes back right where it should be.

i installed my aftermarket xm myfi and ran the little magnet atenna on the top of the roof next to the exterior cargo lamp and through the housing. once i fed it through, i then tucked it carefully in the roof liner all the way to the front of the cab and down the a pillar trim. then i ran her under the glove box and for you, it would be right to the head unit. just an idea!

do like i did and how i instal em at work, thrwo it up on the dash, right near the A pilliar it works fine i get awsome receptions and its hidden and doenst get dammaged on the outside.
you can also run one of the micro antennas around the bottom edge of the front windshield and use some 3M to mount it right on the center of the dash, about 2 inches for the windshield.
I just installed my Sirius unit today with the Sigma antennae. I went through the cargo light as the guys did above. No problem. I am finding that my signal seems weaker than with my past alpine unit in another vehicle. I am going to try to pull it farther away from the rear glass and see if that helps. Maybe the factory radio just has a weaker pull?

on XM antennas you can pop them inside so far on sirus we havnet had any luck except on teh bettle convertable, has anyone else tried it on a frontier with sirus on the inside? i put mine next to my A pilliar so its not as evident.

FYI -- Mine is almost touching the black plastic on the outside of the cargo light and I still show full strength on the signal meter.
Good luck!

Thanks, I will give it a try. That Sigma antennae is huge. I might try a generic magnetic antennae if refreshing the signal does not improve things.
