I have a 2005 Frontier Crew Cab and would like to install new speakers in the front and back doors. I have searched these threads and did find one that talks about how easy it is to remove the door panel, and it is for the most part.
My problem is that I have manual windows and I have no idea how to get that handle off so I can get the panel off.
I got the door panel part down pretty well I think, I just don't have any idea of how to get the window handle off, or if that it is even what I,m supposed to do. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I don't know about the newer vehicles, but on some of the older ones, there is a "retainer" type clip behind the handle. Its tucked away behind the handle itself. On my old toyota, the haynes manual said to use a really durable but thin cloth or like material to pop the clip out. Again, if it is the same for the newer vehicles...put pressure on the panel so that there is a small gap and look behind the handle and see where the clip is open, then use a cloth to wedge between the handle and the door panel where the clip is open and work it back and forth until it pushes the slip off. Once the clip is off, the handle should just slide right off. I think the hard part is putting the clip back on.
Does it look like there might be a cap on the handle? I wonder if there is and a screw behind it?? I'll have to see if my 04 frontier is like that.
Again, this is how I had to do it on my 88 toyota. I don't know if it would be the same for the newer vehicles on the road today. I only posted this in an attempt to provide some help.
Hopefully somebody that knows for sure will post something.
Good Luck
Thanks for the tip. I will definately look to see if I can find anything similar to what you have described.
I don't think manual window technolgy has improved much, so hopefully its the same setup you have had experience with, however I guess different companies do things differently so we'll see.
I will give this a look, and will post back and let you know.

Thanks again.
I don't remmber very well, but when I looked at a 05 frontier while waiting on my truck at the service department, it too had the manual windows and I think the handles as well as other things were identical. If that being the case when I just looked at mine, the part of the handle that you grab, if you look directly behind and down the arm of it with the handle pointing the ceiling, there is a small gap and you can see the retainer clip thing. It looks like there is enough room to get a small pair of needle nose plier behind their to some way or another spread the clip slightly enough to allow it to be pushed down. Or maybe, don't know how it is setup, you could spread the clip slightly and just see if the handle will pull off. Best I can do for you for.
Hope it works. Just becareful not to scratch anything up if you use the pliers
Good luck and let me now how it goes in case I want to take my pioneers out for something else. (I cheated and had best buy put mine in, it was free at the time)
That was it. Getting the needle nose in there was not easy, and I did kind of scratch up the little black washer looking thing seperates the handle from the panel, but that can easily be replaced if need be.
Thank you so much for your help. The door panel came right off after that. Then I got to find out that Circuit City sold me the wrong size speakers.
Oh well, practice makes perfect. Getting it back on was a piece of cake though so thats good.

Thank you so much again for your help.
Happy Superbowl Sunday. Hope its a good one.
Hey, no problem
When you do pull the door panels off again, use some electrical tape or something like that to keep from scratching that black ring further. Not that it really matters too much since it is hinden by the arm of tha handle, but hey, I guess no or few scratches is better than a lot of scratches lol.
DId you have to push the clip out or was it only spreading the clip and pulling the handle all that was needed?
Well take care.
Have to go for the Seahawks sine I don't care for either team. Walter Jones has a Huge House here in the Huntsville area. Its crazy lol He's got a regulation size football field complete with goal posts in his back yard. During the off season when he is living here, you could catch him training pushing his escalade up his drive which as a decent slope to it. How he keeps it from crashing into his house once at the top of the drive way I will never know(maybe he's got someone in the truck... lol).
