Pics from Borrego Springs, CA LONG

Some friends and I went to Borrego Springs, CA to camp do some light wheeling.

My Frontier (05 CC SE 4X4 5AT)

Friend's Tacoma (04 CC TRD Off Road 4X2 e-lock rear diff 5AT)

I was very satisfied with the Frontier's off road capabilities as well as my own. The Tacoma on the other hand left much to be desired. I had to pull it out of the dunes more times than I care to mention. It was definitely a combination of an inexperienced driver and lack of a front axle that made the Tacoma under perform. I drove it around for a bit and managed to get stuck but it was driver error and not the truck itself.

Here are the pics:

Stuck Taco

Imprints of rear tires and rear differential

Letting the rear slide (still a very capable vehicle)

Tha Badlands

Looking towards Salton Sea (east)

Towards South

A few washes (real narrow, tight turns, and lots of off camber...tough trail)
We didnt go through them (probably would not attempt in my truck)

This is where I was utterly impressed with the Frontier. I attacked this hill from several angles and was able to power through and get up to the top almost every time. The approach from the left side cutting across was a bit trickier, but all I needed was more speed. This was done with no e-lock rear diff and stock General Grabber tires. Photos really dont do it this any justice. The hill was actually pretty steep.

The aftermath...a few scratches (nothing major thanks to the teflon coating) and good bye antenna (which i should have taken off before we started)

Damn your making me jealous!
I miss those days. I had an awesome opportunity to live in the middle east in a country called United Arab Emirates and while my dad was stationed there their government gave us 4x4 pathfinder to drive. I miss the good ole days

Looks like you had a blast

Cool. I always wondered what 4 wheeling in sand was like. All I have to play in is rocks and snow.

snow is awsome. I drive through trails and fields all the time when there is alot of snow. I can drive through about 2 feet of snow as long as I keep it going. If I stop for any reason I usually have a hell of a time getting going again.
