has anyone else heard this noise
Just a shot here...clicking or slapping? How many miles since last timing belt change? The dealer just told me mines making a slapping noise due to a timing belt slapping into the cover....must be sloppy or something..stretched. Just an idea. Might wanna open the hood and see where its clicking from.
my truck only has 37,000 miles on it, and yes it is oringal miles. the sounds sounds like its comming from the exhaust manifold are inside the engine. almost sounds like someone is tapping the engine with a screw driver.
My cracked exhaust manifold sounded the same way. I thought it was a lifter tapping but the dealership replaced the manifold and the tap tap tap went away.
was your clicking in your frontier in rythme are was it intermitted. mine is very intermitted. sometimes it does it in the morning and sometimes it does after an hour of driving. sometimes it will click very fast like 1 click a sec, and sometimes every 15 sec. the click isnt very loud, u have to be outside to hear it
See mine was less noticable when the truck was warm (metal expands). When it sat and was started thats when you could hear it. Sounds like something else.
I used to have a pathfinder and it did the same thing, it was an exhaust manifold bolt that got stripped out, they put in a helicoil and fixed the problem. The guy at the dealer said it was a common Nissan problem.
Well, if you let it go it might wear out a groove in the manifold and then you would have to replace that too. I think it was only like 150 bux to fix. I would take it to a Nissan dealer and have them confirm that that is your problem, then shop around for the cheapest price.
I WISH I COULD BUT THE THE PROBLEM IS TO INTERMITTED THAT IT MIGHT NOT MAKE THE CLICK WHEN WHEN ARE LOOKING AT IT
I had the same problem on my 99 fronty 4 banger. Turned out to be a combination of the A/C belt and the A/C idler [the small pulley next to the ac compressor].
It would act up in the morning by clicking/clanking--and sometimes it would be nice and quiet. I also thought it was valve clatter or even the infamous cracked manifold, since it would act up primarely on cold days.
I knew it was something related to the a/c system because the intermittent clatter/clicking became worse when I switched on the a/c. I finally had enough and simply CUT the a/c belt. Sure enough, the sound was gone! I never knew how quiet this engine was until i cut this a/c belt!
The small pulley that is right next to the a/c compressor was difficult to turn and as it turned out, the bearings inside were toast.
I ended up replacing the pulley and all the belts and now my truck purrrs on start up.
