Paper vs. Performance air filters?

Hey gentlemen,

I just put in my aFe CAI, now my wife is worried that a high flow air filter will let in more impurities than a high restriction paper filter. I've looked on Google for a comparison, but haven't found anything really definitive comparing the filtration of the two different types. I did read that K&N filters are supposed to get 99% of what paper filters get, but I haven't found anything to back up that claim. Do any of you know of any sites that really compare the 2 so I can put my wife's concerns to rest? Thanks.

I have pics of the installation, just click on my signature link, if interested.

I was recently a long time Tacoma owner and a offroad forum member. One thing we agreed on the most was that oiled cotton filters allowed more dirt to pass through than a conventional filter. We had several owners reporting check engine lights. The cause was dirty MAF sensors. However, only the offroading groups reported problems. The street crews never had a problem. Keep off the dirt trails and you'll be fine.

Thats interesting since the biggest problems I've heard of being attributed to oiled filters and MAF's is over oiling the filter which then caused fouling of the MAF. (not saying you're wrong, I just hadnt heard a comparison between on-road vs off road groups.) Maybe all the problems I heard about were from off-roaders who pointed at over oiling when it was not the problem in the first place.
